I was just wondering what the average life of a Magna is. My '96 has 34,000 miles on her and she is still running strong. I know it has a lot to do on how often it was serviced and how hard it was ridden, but I just wanted to get a average.
Others will give more details but it is a well-designed Honda it will last a long time. Somewhere there is a topic of "how many miles do you have". I am not close to the higher mileage bikes but I should be hitting 50K next month.
Outlaw - Welcome from Safety Harbor, Floriduh..
If you could fill in your profile a little (Signature) so we know where your from that would be great.
I have ~70+K on my '94 (the TSB to correct the oiling issue on the cams bearings was never done -'94 issue only). Mine still runs great, the tranny clunk has gotten a little worse and I've had it go into neutral between 3-4 and 4-5 a few times.. I had to replace the starter clutch - that has been the big maintenance issue so far.. It uses virtually no oil between oil changes (I change my oil once a year)
Since you have a '96 - IF you have not replaced your voltage regulator, I would expect that will be an issue for you. Do a search on Voltage "regulator" and you will find several threads on the subject. I have had to replace mine twice.. (that is unusual - 1 replacement usually takes care of the issue.. Regulators after 2001 do not seem to have the failure issue). Failures can be no voltage or high voltage.
I have never heard of one wearing out    I mean I had one that had right at 70000 miles but have heard of higher like I said really I have never heard of one going in for rebuild but I am sure it happens   But then again it is a Magna might be Indestructible
Depends on your definition of "alive" also. You talking JUST the engine?? If so, then I would say with proper maintenance expect 100k or more. BUT other things will fail along the way, and your ability/desire to fix them is what actually defines how long the bike will "live". Just my opinion of course. :-)
My '94, which had 7400 miles on it when I got it, now has over 91,000. I have replaced the clutch twice (I am a fairly aggressive rider) and I just put on my 4th chain, averaging almost 30k per chain. I have replaced the rear sprocket only once, using Amsoil chain lube helps tremendously. I have 3 front sprockets, 15, 16, and 17 teeth, all original. I switch them for gearing changes depending on the type of ride I plan to do at any given time. No engine problems at all, so I'm shooting for 200,000 miles, provided I live that long.
