anyone ever worked on them? the bandit 1200 has them. the bike wont idle without the choke on and is misfiring untile about 6k rpm then it is fine.
I am blaming the pilot jets. I took the bowls off and the pilot screw out and sprayed around and it ran better, but not good still.
Problem is I can't see how to get the pilot jet itself out of the carb. It is in a recessed area and they appear stripped out. I am not the first person to go into these carbs by evidence of screws partly stripped already in other places along the way.
Any advice on how I might get those jets out?
Allen and I had the same issue with my carbs. (two of them)...There is no perfect way to get them out or guarantee you won't mess the carb. up...I am waiting till I have two replacements before I try to get mine out...I believe I can sell good ones if I don't need them...However I must say we cleaned the hell out of them and is running fine without removing them...Just can't fine tune it if it needed it...
Good Luck....Greg or Allen will have and idea I'm sure....
I get off the boat Wendsday maybe we could have a look at them I have a few things I need to get done but can do them during the day while you are WORKING LOL give me a shout if you want me to swing by !!!
Sounds very strongly to be the the idle jets...
I am convinced it is the idle/pilot jets. problem is the way they are in there. I have no clue as to how to get them out. I am hoping for some tips or tricks.
I think someone has tried to remove them before and stripped them by using the wrong size screw driver. The carbs are back on the bike right now, at his house. I might be pulling them off again by the weekend. If so I will try and take some pics.
If anyone has experience with a Mikuni flat slide I would sure like to hear from you.
Here is a schematic. See how the pilot jet is "recessed"? You can barely even see it when looking in there. I think someone has stripped them trying to remove them. I was thinking there must be a special screw-driver for it.
