I would like to what is used around the air box to hold on the two parts that appear to have rtv silicon applied to them. Also the air filter had some kind of grease sealing it to the bottom of the box, what was that? What kind of oil do you apply to the filter?

The grease is wheel bearing grease.
You apply it to the rubber sealing edges to keep an air tight seal.

I'm not sure what you're referring to in terms of rtv silicon.
Are you using a K&N filter? I don't apply any oil to the filter (I use Honda OEM's though), I just seal it with wheel bearing grease around the edges to keep the air tight seal.

Hi I'm very blessed Dan, Dan Yoder of Pittsburgh, PA. Sorry to hear that you are unlucky Dan. I have a OEM filter because it has a Honda part number. I just bought this bike i May so it is full of suprises. I just bought a set of carbs on Ebay for my V4 and got the entire air box assembly with it and another filter. If you look at the air box it has three parts. One on the end with two little compartments and one in the middle that creates a vortex down into the plenum. These parts kinda snap together or have rubber grooves male and female. The question is what is used as a sealer. All around the outside of both pieces on my bike's box and the air box I just bought we have a sealer. It is hard and dry and looks like GE Silicon old name was RTV. I am only guessing that it is Silicon. Does anyone know what it is. I am going to Winchester VA tomorrow to move my son up here for a few weeks before he goes to Alaska, so you won't hear much back from me after 8:00 AM Eastern. Yeah man. I'm not sure what the Silicon stuff is, I'd have to see it in person or what not. This is why I asked where you lived in PA (I'm close to the PA/MD border).
I live near Baltimore City, Maryland.
I use RTV silicone on mine. the original on mine was sort of orange/red color.
I don't think maryland Dan has had his airbox apart far enough to see what your talking about. No offense Dan. :wink:

OK, I thought that is what it was. I am soaking all three parts now and will be buying some GE RTV on the way home from work. Sorry I did not respond earlier I was out of town. Hey Dan I live in Murrysville PA just outside of Pittsburgh PA. Thanks for all your help, see how we can all share and learn from each other. I would not know what to do without my cyber buddies. I do have just one more question. I have a second set of carbs for my VF700C and was thinking of boiling them in water and lemon juice instead of the carb dip routine. What do you think of that idea?
