Title: Custom handlebars for 3rd gen?
Post by: Cannon on September 08, 2009, 12:22:46 PM
Hi all you magna-experts
I plan to alter my stock handlebars for a "straight" version, resulting in a bit more forward leaning driving position with lower hand position.
I'd like to keep my risers, and all cables at stock lengt. Questions;
- Anyone done this, and was it successfull?
- What type and wendor should I use (internet shop, for examle cruisercustomizing.com)?
- Any considerations, tips or tricks?
- Can I use handlebars with risers itegrated
- Any risk tha the lower positioned bars would conflict with gas tank?

Hope you can help me with this  8-)

Try T-bars or Drag-bars.  Several online vendors to choose from, etc.
If you go with T-bars you will remove your risers as they have them built in and I would go with the 6" to keep stock cables etc.

I have a T-bar set on a '96 Magna I bought today that I would like to trade for a standard handlebar and, if I can pull it off, a pair of Shadow risers.

The T-bar appears to be in good shape.  It is late tonight, but I will post a pic tomorrow.

This bike came to me with a Mustang seat and Jardine forward controls.  With my short arms, I am pretty much folded up with the short bars.

I want dibbs on the mustang seat if you decide to get ridd of it...but I doubt that will happen.. :-) :-)

OK, I will post details of the "new" '96 bike elsewhere, but here is a pic of the handlebars I want to exchange:

Lawrence, how wide are the bars end to end, I am wanting to change my stock bars but haven't been able to find a pair that are 28" or wider. If you are interested shoot me a P.M.

Including the grips, the tangential distance across the back of the bars is 28.5 inches.  If you measured straight across the front of the grips, you would get 29+ inches.

Sent you a PM

Here's a site that show dimensions for stock bikes.  Maybe you could pick up a bar off e-bay or somewhere that would fit your risers, but have more width and pullback.

Thank you all for good advice. This will probably be a small winter project (and norwegian winter is not far away) .
Also considering to rebuild backend with better looking taillight and indicators.

One more question; when going for LED indicators, do I have to use extra resistors or could I swap the indicator "realy" for one that supports LED?

Relay is easier, plug and play.
