Today I decided to re-jet my bike to eliminate the med range hesitation I have a K&N filter and have drilled holes in the pipes I went with #42 slow jets and #105 mains added 1 shim and adjusted the fuel air screws 2&3/4 turns it runs great now no hesitation at all. I will say this though I will not do it by myself again, at the wrench sessions it usually takes us about 2 or 3 hours it took me a little over 6 hours to do it by myself and it wasn't nearly as much fun. Had a hard time getting the carbs off and a harder time getting them back on but I did get it done.
You're a better man than I, Gunga Din...I pulled the air filter housing, saw those four brass horns staring up at me and what it took to remove them and I suddenly began to molt....

if you want some help, just holler. i can come out to help you if you want :) i've had mine on.off at least 10 times within the last 2 years and have experimented wih various jetting.
Not to Hi-jack the tread, but I have a carb question..
I have K&N and a hole drilled in each exhaust. I have one added shim.
My bike has always had a bad stumble in the low end and not the mid range. I almost always have to choke my bike when I start it even here in Florida, during the summer..
Between 4K and Redline the bike pulls strong...
Should I up my Idle jets?? They are stock now, any recommendations on what I should go with and where to get them..
Before I change jets, should I turn my idle mixture screws out some more to see if it helps?? anybody have a suggestion for the number of turns out I should shoot for??
Thanx for the advice in advance.
Hoot, I would do what Jerry did and turn them out 2 3/4 turns before you do jets, also do you have any extra shims in the carbs, I would add 1 shim to each needle.

Shims - See above. - I did not see any improvement on the low end stumble from the shim addition. My gas mileage seems to have gone up, but nothing on the stumble.
2 3/4 turns.. - Great.. I have the bit needed, but I'd rather go with number of turns than try to adjust them while the engine is HOT..
I'll give it a try!!!
I think Jerry's combination is a VERY good choice. Hootmon, I also think it would be about right for you also.
Damn Yankee there is NO need to remove the 4 trumpets, leave them attached.
Remember you guys can always give me a shout if you need help in the DFW area.
Is DD the best place to get jets from ??

I would say it is one among many, no problem supporting one who supports us but with your budget situation I know cost is utmost importance so once you factor in shipping you might do better somewhere local.
Are there brands I should consider and brands I should avoid??
I got mine at jetsrus.com fairly reasonable prices
Chad helped me rejet mine early last summer and it is running good. I have the K&N filter and two 7/16" holes drilled in each pipe. We went with the 105 main jets, 2 extra shims (3 total) per needle, and 2-3/4 turns out on the d-screws. I get a lot of popping on decel, so I think the idle jets may need to be bigger. I'm taking a dyno operators class this fall and will be dyno tuning my Magna sometime in October . I'll let you know where I end up. The instructor told me to get a dynojet kit (he's a Harley guy), but I plan to check valve clearance and sync the carbs, then baseline it and adjust the A/F mixture before buying anything (and I don't plan to ever get the dynojet kit).
with the 42 idle jets I have almost no decele popping.
Keep us in the loop on your A/F mixture when you dyno.
Jerry, next time you need or want some help, let me know I live in Arlington as well. I'm about four miles north of Two Wheel World. Will be glad to help.
Remember some decel pop is supposed to be there, as you have the throttle closed and the engine is still spinning higher RPM than idle, so therefore it is supposed to be lean in that situation..
You take away all the decel pop then it will be too rich on the low end...
Just a little up date after several tanks of gas, the gas mileage dropped about 2 miles per gallon, but the better performance is well worth that. Also warms up much quicker in the mornings without the need of chocking.
