Title: Alternator Rotor Puller?
Post by: Irisheagle on December 05, 2009, 02:49:59 PM
Hey guys,

Trying to replace my stator, but got all the way to the rotor and realized I don't have the tool, and I'm slightly hesitant to plop down forty bucks for the K&L one I found online. I know you can just use a normal old bolt of the same thread and width, I was wondering if anyone knows what the actual threading/width dimensions are for the rotor puller? Sadly I have to put the bike back together to actually go anywhere and can't take the rotor bolt for comparison. Bike is a 1984 V45.

Thanks,
Dave

Edit: I found the cheaper ones for ten bucks online, but I'd still prefer to avoid the time associated with shipping.

Where are you located Dave? Add that bit of info to your signature line will make it easier for the ones wanting to help.

Just putting this information down in case anyone needs it in the future, but the size is 22mm x 1.5mm RH male, and I believe that's consistent with all VF750's regardless of the year. All but impossible to find locally apparently, so went ahead and ordered a puller online.

If you have a spare rocker arm shaft, it's the same thread size/pitch, just the shaft the rocker rides on is too long and will need to be cut/ground down.  I'm talking about the chrome cap that's on the side of the heads.  Cut about 1/2 inch off first, and keep grinding it back until you have a decent amount of threads in there so it won't strip out.  If it doesn't seem to want to come off, give it a good pop with a rubber mallet, should come off then.

It's #7 on the pic...
