Now THAT's a long ride!!
If you ride over in the Bahamas be sure you stay on the correct (left) side of the rode. I rented a scooter over there and forgot a couple times, nearly got ran over.
When I rented a car and drove in England years ago, I found it worked pretty well until I came to a corner. Had to really concentrate to avoid turning into the wrong lane. Did better than a colleague, though as we let off a British native (who had been driving the car), my colleague undertook to just drive the car around Heathrow airport to the rental car return. Hit curbs three times in two blocks -- opposite curbs at that -- at which time I took over.
You also have to change your habits as a pedestrian. When I undertake to cross the street, I look left before stepping out, then look to the right to cross the far lane. The habit will get you killed in a country which drives on the left.
The funniest, though, was when a car stopped to let me walk across the street, and I smiled and waved my "thank you" to the left side of the car -- which was occupied by his wife, sweetheart, whatever. Thought he was going to run over me anyway!!

I went on a "Pub Tour" of England years ago. I declined the option to rent a car for the non-drinking times just because of the traffic circles. I had this fear of getting sucked into Picadilly Circus and being stuck there for days.

So, what kind of plans are coming together for this. Such as meeting locations, times and routes?? My neighbor and I plan on making it and would like to meet up with anyone leaving out of Houston.
Well guess we need to look at that will check on routes any suggestions or if anyone has a route feel free busy today will post pics in a few days of what we are doing !!!!

How many miles did you have on those pads?
Wrong question, Terry. How many stops did he have on those pads?
If most of the riding is in the country, or on uncrowded highways, then the brakes may not get used all that much. There should be a huge variability in the life of pads, depending on total weight, riding style, traffic conditions, etc.
In my opinion, "miles don't matter"...

I was trying to figure that out. It's either 13 or 18 thousand. As far as stops.... I'll try and count them on this set of pads.
I didn't think he would know those answers and unless he's a MC postman I figure he would be an average rider, 13-18K is not many.

This takes you a bit out of the way but I've heard the FM3090 ride is awesome...I put the starting location as my house because I wasn't sure where we wanted to meet-up, and I know Allen lives not to far from me...we can meet up here, at Allen's if that what he has planned, or somewhere like the intersection of 1488 and Honea Egypt Road (Honea Egypt is a nice ride when you're not stuck behind a car).
Allen, any thoughts...I know you've been busy getting that bike painted (which looks awesome BTW).

I like the Honea Egypt road and the ride thru the forest so sounds good I should be back Weds so will jump on it then...
Allen and A65bug
We can meet you guys in the Woodlands, we will be coming from Humble area.
Does anyone have a GPS that they can plug the route into, I'll get us lost since I've only been up that way once...
I stumbled across that route up the west side of the forest by sheer dumb luck. After I got through the forest, I stopped to check to the time and see if I needed to head home, a nice guy stopped to see if I needed help, we started chatting about bikes and he told me about that FM 3090 route, said it's the best twisty route in the area. I didn't have time to run it but I've been thinking about it ever since (then my 2nd daughter was born and I've had no time to ride since).
As for meeting up, whatever works best for everyone...Allen, do you have a place you ususally meet-up with folks?
Jerry, I have not figured that out yet, just started looking. I will let you know, or if you have suggestions let me know.

Royers has awesome pie. I was there recently and I think they turned away "pie only" people because there was a 30+ minute wait for lunch. I remember them asking before if we were having lunch or just pie.

Yeah, I'll let Allen make that call since I don't know what time he's going to want to meet-up....if we want to grab a cup of coffee before we head out, there's a Starbucks at the corner of College Park (242) and I-45, in front of the Lowes...right by the highway and it's a straight shot to 1488 from there...
Allen - thoughts? I definitely don't want to step on any toes here...

Captain, we could meet you off BW8 on your way there. I live near W. Lake Houston and BW8 and will be taking BW8 to I45 for sure.

Okay, I will have at least two more coming along. So when we get there I will follow you after a fill up.
So, what time is everyone planning on being at Sodolaks? I haven't seen a time to be there! 8) I think my daughter is going to be covering my 6. Some of you have met her at some previous wrench sessions, she is a real gear head when it comes to Magna's. QuoteHey Tom, I'm pretty sure I'm going and I think Jesse is also. We might have to plan a route out Katy.
Getting down to the wire, will need to know where and when to meet and what route we want to take.
From the posts, it sounds like the guys coming from Venus (that just sounds funny - I'll be expecting little green people) are going to get to Snook around 11:30AM. Since I haven't been on this ride/meet before, not 100% sure how this is working, but sounds like everyone's going to meet-up in smaller groups and then meet-up as a larger group in Snook. If that's the case, probably makes sense to target getting there around the same time - do we want to target 11:30AM in time to get the Chicken Fried Bacon while it's fresh...
11:30 sounds good. So, I guess we should meet at Starbucks about 8:30-9?
Yeah guys I figure getting there at around 11:30 or so Houston people if you want to meet at the Starbucks off 242 that would be great say 8:30ish. Sounds like we are going to have a few people so it will be a nice ride here is the well you will get it 2815361708 if you have any questons!! Look forward to seeing you all we are going to have a great time!!!!
That sounds good, looking forward to it! Gotta give the V65 a quick 1-over tonight to make sure my recent fixes decide to stay fixed. See you at 8:30 at the Starbucks...I'll be the guy on the Magna...
Nice, see you guys at Starbucks around 8:30. My sister-n-law and her hubby may meet us there too.
Looks like we are going to have alot of people   Come on Saturday
I plan on meeting whoever at the starbucks on 242 at 0830 give or take.

242 is way out of my way, will try to hook up with some of the other guys from Katy and meet everyone else in Snook. I have a route planned out if anyone wants to take it too. My cell is 281-802-9811, call and we can talk it over.
Weather permitting, Bill Duke and his wife Trudy will come with me on Saturday. I told him that others were bringing their wives, so Trudy would feel comfortable coming.
Bill rode Colorado with us last summer, so Jeff and Jim already know him. Jim, I hope your wife comes with you.
I wasn't going to make this ride, but I have to see Allen's shiny new paint.  We should see you guys about 11:30. I will PM Allen with my cell number. Jim already has it.
Thank god I decided to give the bike a 1-over, found the front brake m/c I swapped out this weekend was leaking, was losing fluid quickly. Tore it down again and steel wooled the bore to make sure there wasn't any small scratches or gunk, put it together, bled it, still leaking. Pulled it again, took a look at the original seals to make sure the aftermarket rebuild kit was right, what do you know, the seal on the piston was missing from the new one. I reused the old piston with the new inner seal and wah-lah, no leaks. So, bike's ready to go now. Glad I kept all the original parts (not that I don't have another backup to pull parts from, but this was easier).
Tom, I agree, probably a better route for you guys to ride north from Katy...I suggested a meeting point up this way because it sounded like the Katy group was going to meet-up down there.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!!!

Okay, Jerry, there will be Jeff ATkins, Na and myself showing by 8 at 67 and 157.
See you there Bob.
Garmin GPS Routes and waypoints for anyone meeting at 242 and 45. This takes us to Sodolak's and the optional run to Royer's for pie afterwards.

I'll be there by 8AM, see you guys then...
Leaving to meet up with the group at 67 and 157 ni about 10 minutes. See you guys there.
Everyone have a great ride and see you there!!!!
Sorry I'm missing this one guys. I'm in Indiana cleaning some stuff up at the home place this week.
I'll catch the next big ride.
Thanks to everyone who made this ride. It was my first "group" ride and I really enjoyed. Thanks to Jesse for leading us, that was a complicated course but well worth it. Thanks to Paco for creating it ( I assume we followed his original course).
Thanks to our group for being so cool to my sister and law too. All she kept saying at lunch was "wow, we never go that fast when it is a group of Harley's" LOL, I told her "OF COURSE YOU DON'T".
I look forward to doing more rides with you guys. Maybe we can do one early April while the wildflowers are doing their thing.
465 miles today. Had a great time visiting with old and meeting new. Cant wait till next time to see all of you again. Everyone there needs to come to MOOTMag #8 this summer. June 9-13

Enjoyed the ride today and great to see everone looking forward to the next one and diffently MOOTMAG 8.
Great time today. Every leg of this adventure was fun. I have got to get me one of those GPS's that Jesse has with the "Cow Mode". We traveled some roads today that I'll never be able to find again. (Jesse, how about a map?)
It was indeed a great day. We had the "Colorado foursome" together again, at least for a couple of hours.
Really enjoyed visiting, ogling bikes, asking questions, trading lies, etc.
Come on, June -- 9-13th -- MOOTMAG 8. Register if you haven't already. Days instead of hours of riding, talking, eating fun.
Made it home safe and tired at 7:00 pm. 12 1/2 hours, 505 miles, approximately 3000 calories and way too much saturated fat consumed. A day of excess on many fronts. Just the way I like it.
Great to see everybody again. Thanks Bob for leading us down and back. I especially enjoyed the tour of east Temple. Who knew there are so many dead end streets and so few signs directing you to I-35?
Hope to see many of you again in Jefferson in June.
Jeff Atkins
Enjoyed seeing everyone today and meeting new people. Bob, Lawrence, and Marc, it's been about two years so it was really good to catch up with you guys. And Allen's bike was the cleanest I've ever seen it!
David. "Cow mode" is pretty funny. You're asking for it on the next ride. At least I didn't take you down any gravel roads, but that can be arranged next time.
Hey guys, made it home as well despite the tendency to "sprinkle" the road with coolant. Looks like I gotta dig for a spare radiator cap! Had a great time and it was nice to meet everyone. Definitely have to do this again...wish I could make MOOTMAG but I've already got 2 weekend trips planned by myself, next year though...
Well, thanks for putting this one together. It is the largest group of MOOTsters I have seen in a long time.
Good route Jerry, it was good riding with all of you again and seeing some new faces.
I am curious, when I tried to pay for some of the bacon strips she said they were taken care of already. Did someone pay for them or did they throw them in because we were such a great group???
Enough of us paid for a plate of them that you were covered. 8-) That was a great time, seeing everyone we have met before and all the new faces we haven't met before. :) Had a great time catching up with everyone and sniffing bikes and telling lies. Glad everyone got there and home safely! :-P
Must confess..This was my first Chicken Fried Bacon run and the first ride as a MOOTSTER.. :D
Would like to say I met a Great group of guys and now have faces to go along with your names..Jesse led us on a great route from the Woodlands to Snook...Thanks for keeping us off those gravel roads......I think a GPS is next on my wish list for sure...I think the route was put together by Mark and I would say lets do it again..:D...Allen your paint job really turned out nice...Really looking forward to more runs in the future to meet more Mootsters who really know how to have a good time.. :D :D

I'm glad it turned out great! Sorry, I couldn't make it as planned. It is a hard journey to make with my current agenda.
:)
Dan, you were supposed to be there??? ;-)
Guess what? My speedo crapped out during the ride.

I thought mine had crapped out also but then realized I was the only one left following Jesse from Roundtop to Brookshire. I think it was just pegged during that time.
Nice, guess you were making up for the first half... ;-)

Nice. I wonder who will find a working speed first then haha...
I think it is just my cable, which I have 2 more of. Oh, and a whole extra set of gauges on one of my parts bikes. So... I would bet on ME! ;-)
