Title: Muffler Mods
Post by: stickslinger on May 26, 2010, 06:54:30 PM
Call me crazy now :)

Did this mod over the weekend:

Worked out great.

Just made some mods to his suggestions though. I used a pin punch that pretty much fit the inner part of the rivets to start the punch through. Then followed through with an awl to punch it through. I used a 3/16 drill bit to get the rest of the rivet out without any damage. To avoid any damage to the piece of tube that extends beyond the flange, I used a vice grip that is sort of a needle nosed with a firm grip setting, then used the normal plier type vice grip to attach to that below. A couple of taps with about a 5 lb hammer and the whole back end was siding out just fine.

As suggested, used, 1/4 x 3/16 rivets and a rivet gun from Lowes to piece it all back together.

Total cost. About $20.00 and a slightly swollen left thumb :)

She sounds great. Ready for ROLLLLLLING THUNNNNNDER!!!!!

Hehe.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Sorry to hear about the thumb.  The only people that have not hit their thumb is a person that does not work on their own stuff.
