Title: Screwy question
Post by: lragan on June 18, 2010, 10:38:34 PM
Does anyone know the size/specs of the 9 screws that hold the air cleaner on 3rd gen Magnas?  I am planning a wrench session sometime in the near future, and one of the intended participants has complained about the soft metal in these screws, as he had to Dremel a slot in one or more to get them out of his '99 Magna.

I have used the cap head SS screws like Greg recommends in his carb write-up with good success.  It would be nice to replace these screws with something a bit more rugged as well.  If we can find the right screw in stainless cap head, I will order a gaggle of 'em and provide them to those who need them at cost + postage.

I tried looking it up on the schematics, but it doesn't provide the actual size..
I think the issue is that the bolt is unthreaded for some distance (at least the longer ones toward the back). The shoulder (unthreaded part) I believe is intended to align the top of the air cleaner box with the lower part. Not sure how important this is, but thought I would throw it out there.
