I know this is old news here for the most part but I'm thinking about swapping out my stock light for one and have a question or two for those who've done this or know something about it. I've seen a few parts lists floating around but the parts sometimes vary. For example, I've seen both of these parts numbers listed for the Headlight Unit: 33120-mch-671 & 33120-MEA-671
One might be from a VTX1800 and the other a 1300. Are these basically equivalent?

and of course the one listed on this site in the FAQ. The other list also makes mention of using a specific mounting bracket to move the headlight bucket forward a little to avoid hitting the speedo cable ... I'm just not sure what bracket, exactly, they are referring to (is it the Headlight Stay)? I've seen references to a custom bracket as well but I just don't know if that's the only alternative.

Can't answer all your questions directly, but here is what I did:
o I used belome's list (I did this about 3 years ago, so what's changed since then,,, ???)
o I ordered the parts from an 01 1300, as my Magna is an 01 (makes no sense, but that's what I did). Note that I did notice some part # discrepancies, but I just ordered the correct part description from the parts pic.
o I did not use any bracket extensions/mods. My speedo cable touches the bucket, but so far nothing has happened to the cable or bucket. Personally I think moving the bucket forward screws up the lines of the light and the bike.
Only other thing I recall was that the list had me order a couple of screws that could have been re-used from the stock setup. Can't remember which ones they were now though.
If you're looking to save money, might try hanging out on a VTX forum and look for a FS, or post a WTB.
This is a nice upgrade as just the VTX reflector and lens improve lighting, add an OSRAM bulb and it's even better without going down the "blinding on-coming traffic" route.
Given that most everything on the 3rd gen is interchangeable with any year, I guess if it worked for one it should work for any. Do you need the Headlight Stay (61312-MCH-670)? I've been told that the mounting holes don't line up for the Magna? I have been looking online for a used one too but haven't found one. It seems that there is quite a bit of variation in prices for the parts (like 33120-MEA-671 seems to be cheaper than 33120-mch-671) so if I can save a few bucks that way, why not.

I just don't recall exactly. I did order it all, so if the list has the stay, then I ordered it. Might be why my bucket/cable are not problematic.
I think I understand now ... after looking more thoroughly at the parts fiche, the "headlight stay" you need is not the mounting bracket, it's another part that goes into the headlight rim (appears to be what holds the rim to the bucket). The bracket is the part that was "removed" from the list that belome has on his web site. Thanks again for the help!
