Title: V45 transmission
Post by: Jamtndll on August 03, 2010, 08:03:51 PM
Have a friend who is looking at buying an 84 V45.  He says the person who owns it says the transmission is bad.  How hard is it to work on the transmission and how hard is it to find the parts? He can buy it for 400 as is.
Thanks in advance.

$ 400.00?

He needs to run like hell from that deal. We're buying running bikes for that here in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Tell him to keep shopping, Jim.

You do not want to buy into transmission problems.

If it has a clear title and the rest of the bike is really clean and working it might be worth a couple hundred for a parts bike, but I agree with Dave if your friend is not into building bikes, I would stay away from bikes that age with mechanical problems.. Just my 2 cents

I concur with the consensus.

On the flip side, if that is all the money he can afford and it will be a long project where he can pay as he goes, that maybe a different story, make a better deal and cosmetics will mean a lot along with the condition for the rest of the bike.

Concur.

Pick an easier bike to work on like a 250 rebel lol if you want to fool with transmission issues.

Not a complex v45.
