Title: 88 SUPER MAGNA IGNITION COILS
Post by: bgayler on February 21, 2006, 07:35:14 PM
HELP!
I PURCHASED A PAIR OF ACCEL SUPER COILS AND 8mm WIRES FROM CLASSIC CYCLES SALES IN LEWISVILLE, TX. THE INSTRUCTION PAGE SAYS FOR INDUCTIVE NON CDI IGNITIONS. IM NOT SURE WHAT TYPE OF IGNITION MY 1988 VF750C SUPER MAGNA HAS. ALSO THE STOCK WIRES HAVE A RESISTOR IN THE SPARK PLUG BOOT END THAT THE ACCEL WIRES DO NOT HAVE. AM I GOING TO HAVE A PROBLEM HERE? I'M A NEW MAGNA OWNER AND DUMBER THAN DIRT. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.
THANKS,

GUYS,
I see several looked but no one had the answer about the Accel coil kit.
Unfortunately i live in an area that the local Honda dealer will not work on bikes older than 10 yrs. Fortunately, thru a friend of a friend, i found out that my 88 V45 Super Magna has the CDI system. I just wanted to pass this on to anyone else planning in using Non-OEM parts.

Bill ya beat me to the information LoL, glad you were able to find out what you needed.
Let us know how the Accels work I have thought about putting them on my 87 Super.

Greg, I don't think Bill can use them. If I read the posts correctly the instructions say the coils are for non CDI systems and his Magna has a CDI system.   Bill, is there another type of coil you can get instead?

Forgive me I just woke up (side effect of working nights LoL).  I misread.  I would think they would work, I mean the CDI is the trigger to tell the Coils to fire and when.  Well I guess something has to charge them first, hmmm.
Will have to check on that.

Accel list two types of coils. One for CDI's(part#140404) and one for non CDI's(part#140403). I've emailed Classic Cycle Parts in Lewisville, Tx. about the coils they shipped me(140403) but have not gotten a reply. Even with the right coils, I'm still unsure about 8mm wires. they don't have the built in resistor that the OEM wires have. Oh! for the old days of racing a big block Ford with a simple dual point distributor.

Greg,
Thanks for Andrew's phone number. I called him and he verified that the 88 Magna's DO NOT have CDI ignitions. After speaking with him, I'm convinced he knows what he"s talking about. Just a lession, be careful about information from friends of friends. I'm going to put the Accel Super Coils on My Magna and I'll let you know how it runs.
Thanks again for your help, All of you.

Bill just glad to be able to help somehow.  I look forward to hearing if you get an improvement in how the Super runs.  Thanks.
