Title: Grip/Throttle Sleeve: Ok, what's the trick
Post by: MattG on January 14, 2011, 09:08:08 PM
So I got a pair of Kuryakyn ISO grips from the wife for my bike for Xmas.  She got the universal instead of the Magna-specific ones, but I was able to swap them out at CycleGear with no problem.

So what in the heck is the trick/secret to the throttle ferrules?  I could get one on but then not the other.  Then I figured out how to get them both on as long as the grip wasn't on the bar, but then of course they wouldn't reach to the end of the bar to get the grip on the bar.  I finally got it on by some manner of miracle, but I managed to munge up the plastic on the throttle sleeve a bit in the process.  And I had adjusted the tension on the ferrule to give me the most slack, but now I have to keep it almost at the loosest setting and it still feels like the throttle is resetting a little slowly and doesn't move freely enough.

Any pointers?

Thanks,

I'm not sure if this is what you mean or not but you could always disconnect the cables at the carb, which should give you much more slack at the grip.

Yep you will have to disconnect them at the carb to get enough slack to install them.  BE very careful attaching at the new throttle sleeve, seen em break a few times.

YOU CAN DO IT!

I just loosen the handlebars and slide them over until I have room to slide the grip  on..

it gets messy with the waterproof grease, things sliding all over and the fact you are so close to done you can taste it if that one piece of cable would just slide into place :D.

Loosen it up at the carb side and it goes on in 2 minutes

Good luck

Yeah, I talked to a buddy of mine the next night, and that was the same advice he gave - loosen at the carb side.  Thanks all for the replies. :)
