Title: 85 700 jetting for an aftermarket
Post by: ia801 on March 24, 2011, 10:42:13 PM
anyone have any experience with a mac 4 into 1 header on an 85 700. i put a dyno jet kit and just can't seem to tune in it in. probably got some air leak issues, however, i suspect the mains are off. i got the needle pinned on #3 and the mixture out 4 turns, going to raise the rear mains to 110 and the front to 106; maybe that will put me in orbit!!!

After putting a K&N in on mine, with stock exhaust, I had to go up one step on my pilot jets.  If you are out 3 turns I would suggest doing the same.  Also, on mine I had 110 front and rear.  I know the factory had different ones due to head temps and all, but it worked just fine.  Plugs looked great all the way around and it pulled nice and hard on top.  Also, I like to go a little rich for summertime riding so I am not so lean in the cooler weather.  When I was a young man I would pull my carbs and rejet them based on weather conditions (it was a good excuse to be in the garage but my new bride hated it.), but then again those straight 4 carbs came off so easy compared to these v4 engines.
