Title: Hondaline Windscreen Fitment (3rd Generation)
Post by: arbadacarba on March 27, 2011, 08:39:37 PM
Has anyone got a picture of the Hondaline Windscreen installed?

I'm modifying a stock Hondaline screen to fit around the VTX headlight. I've got it fitting but now I need to figure out how big the gap should be around the light housing.

I need a photo showing the gap as clearly as possible.

Sorry - I don't have the windshield you are speaking of or a Cyclops Headlight, but I wanted to welcome you anyways..

Someone will chime in.

I have a cyclopes head light on my bike. But I have a Cyclear (Memphis) Shades windscreen. Would the measurements and picture help you ?

I bought my bike with a VTX headlight, and just bought a Hondaline windscreen... They don't fit together.

So I changed the shape of the cutout for the headlight... But now that I've got a terrific fit, it occurs to me that I might not want the windscreen to touch the headlight housing.

So what do I do? Do I put a piece of split tubing on the screen to prevent it from scratching the housing? Or do I enlarge the hole slightly to make a gap?

I like the way the Hondaline screen disapears when you aren't looking for it, so a piece of tubing would negate some of that effect.

I'm  wondering how big the gap would have been with the unmodified windshield on the original headlight.

How do other shields work? Do the touch the light housing?

I figured a photo of the stock headlight and the Hondaline shield should give me a pretty close approximation of what honda originally intended.

Thanks

I posted this on one of the other forums in response to your question but figured I would post it here as well ... I think you want the height adjustment to fit your riding position more than anything else.  Where do you want the top of the screen to be more than how it's positioned over the light.  I would not let it touch the top of the light cover or you'll almost certainly end up scratching off some of the plasti-chrome over time.  Make the gap even from left to right and adjust the height for your riding position but leave at least a little space to the top of the light.

I don't know for sure if mine is the Hondaline windscreen but when I bought it it was almost touching the factory light and I had wind buffeting my helmet.  I raised the mounts on the forks higher increasing the gap between the light and shield (undesirable) but it completely eliminated the buffeting..

Can your mounts me moved without further cutting of the screen?
