Title: Gremlin
Post by: Charles S Otwell on March 04, 2006, 11:34:16 AM
I have a small Gremlin   that comes to visit my 87.It  has not moved in yet but I would like be rid of it before it does. A couple of days ago while my bike was warming up, idling at about 1000 rpm , it just died. I was standing close enough to reach over and start it back up without touching anything else. Still idling just fine, a few seconds later it dies again. I didn't have any trouble the rest of the day. Next day everything is fine and in the middle of the day I pull up to a stop light ,and it just died. Just like before it started right back up and hasn't died again, yet. It hasn't died while  I'm riding since the day I brought it home ,(never did figure out what that was) Anyway it runs great, idles good ,when it dies it sound just like you hit the kill switch. I'm going to clean all the electrical connections.  Is there anything else I should do or look for while I'm hunting? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Charles I would check 2 things, first the ignition module.  I have seen then act like it just runs out of gas but fires back up and runs fine for a while then dies all together.  Can have it checked by a dealership.
The next thing would be the handlebar on/off switch, check the connections and such.
Oh and one other thing just came to mind the kickstand safety switch.
Hope this will help evict the gremlin!

Well lately I have noticed my magna has started being funny too and found out my Red On/Off switch can be in the on position and if I wiggle or rest on it wrong it kills the bike had to pull off the road once because of it....

I haven't had the ignition module checked out yet but I wiggled and jiggled everthing on the bike I can't make it die, matter of fact It hasn't died since I wrote the message :? . Greg you mentioned kickstand switch my 87 doesn't have one. Can they check the ignition module if it's not acting up? The only thing I've had to do to the 87 is put a new battery on it, and change the spark plugs. Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know what I find.
