Title: Waxing your bike
Post by: Jigger on May 02, 2011, 05:34:02 AM
How do you guys wax your bike ? Do you use a spray or rub on ? A friend of mine saw an ad on T.V. suggesting to use Lemon Pledge to wax his bike. He said he tried it and it worked great.

I know several people who use pledge and it does work well.. My wife uses Pledge Multi-surface..

I use a product called "Miracle Wash" which is an Amsoil product.. It's not too expensive and it works GREAT..
It cleans quick and very well, and leaves a nice wax coating..
It works so well I wash my bike 3-4 times per year whether it needs it or not  :D as the Miracle Wash takes me less than 5 minutes to make the whole bike presentable.

I also use Turtle Wax "ICE" on all the rubber/plastic parts (ie:grips, saddle bags, etc.) It makes those parts look great.

I've used both but, wax on wax off is probably the best for removing grime and any oxidation.

My Favorite so far is Carnu-B, I had some white filmy discoloration on my rear fender and it was the only thing that took it out. It's a thick liquid wax with real Carnuba wax in it. Goes on and comes off easy. Kinda Spendy but worth it to me.  You can get better deals for multiple bottles.

I use to have a truck that I painted with a brush I would use leamon pledge on it and in shined like a new dime any other wax would leave white residue in the brush lines. Pledge shines good but in order to get grime and oxidation off you need to use a paste wax.

I took some autobody classes a few years ago and I got scolded by my instructor for using Lemon Pledge on my Corvette. He said it would ruin the paint. Always looked good to me though.
