Title: Clutch adjustment
Post by: masterjml on May 02, 2011, 02:02:49 PM
I've read through this board a bit but couldn't find an answer to the question.
I've installed a SS braided clutch cable.  I've adjusted it at the handlebars.

What is the proper adjustment at the engine?  I get a clunk when down shifting sometimes since installing this cable and it's very jarring.

Any advice is much appreciated

The major adjustment is down at the engine.  You use the handlebar to fine-tune.  What you're looking for is to make sure you fully release the clutch when you let go of the lever.  There should be an additional 1/4" or so of free play in the lever once released (this insures you're fully released).

ALL 3rd gen Magna's have a clunk typically when downshifting from 2nd to 1st.  Synthetic oil helps, but it will always be there..

My clunk is when I go from first to second. I tried adjusting the clutch but that did not get rid of the clunk. Going to 3,4,5 go in easy and quite. All my down shift are the same all the way into first.
