Title: September 17 ride to cushing texas
Post by: Jamtndll on August 16, 2011, 08:59:27 PM
It aint 6th street, but planning on riding to Cushing on Saturday September 17 to eat at a place called 7th street cafe for lunch around 11:30.  Been rated by Texas Monthly as one of the top 40 small cafes in Texas. KSU at 8:00 at the Loves on I20 and 314 in Van.  Route will take us through Lindale, Winona, Alto, Troup, New Summerfield (stop for gas and RR), Reklaw and then into Cushings, utilizing as many East Texas Riding Roads as possible.  If you can not make it to Van will be happy to stop and pick up along the route.  Or you can just meet us at 7th street cafe.
754 7th street

Here is one review
I took a slight detour off my usual route home from my parents' house to try the 7th Street Restaurant for dinner on a Monday night. It was well worth the longer drive!

The night's dinner special, pork chops, was the same thing I'd eaten for lunch, so I tried the fried catfish instead; it was the best I've had in quite some time. The sides I chose with it (corn nuggets and fried okra) were delicious, and the sweet tea was nice and strong.

Exposed red brick walls give the building a very welcoming atmosphere, decorated with old farm & ranch tools, license plates, LP album covers, street signs, etc.--and it all looks real, not like the replicas you'd see at so many chain restaurants. If there's a theme, it's simply "old East Texas stuff."

Service was just a tad slow, but this was mainly due to unfortunate timing: I walked in just as a large group (15+) were placing their orders. There was a young waitress working the whole place alone, rushing around to fill orders and refill drinks for at least 30 customers; but she somehow kept up with every table, smiling the whole time.

Mark your calendars now.  If you have any questions let me know.  Looking forward to riding with you soon

Rode it this morning and we will be able to leave Loves at 9 instead of 8.  So KSU will be at 9AM at Loves 314 and I20.  We will get into Cushing around 11:45.  Think on the ride home we will stop in Ben Wheeler for some ice cream at Scoots and scoops.  You got to see this place.  Scooters and Blue Bell, it dont get any better than that

I have to give the cafe a number so they can have it set up for us and not book another group that day.  We can sit up to 50 so lets get out and get some good eats.  Ate lunch there today.  Catfish lunch plate, 3 large pieces of fish that stretched all the way across the plate, tator tots and hushpuppies 6.50.  The Saturday special is all the catfish or shrimp you can eat with all the trimmings for 9.99, or you can order from the menu.

Will let you know if I have to cancel.  If anyone is passing nearRocsall/Terrell ~ 8am, let me know.405-618-9335.

I need to verify the Magna is good this weekend and if it is running good and I am able to go I will give you a call or note Brad. If I am going I would go though Forney

I am going to try going for a ride Saturday to see if it is fixed.

Hey Junior,  Going on this ride is still looking good for me pending a little maintenance and a kid's activity. I'd probably do the map above in reverse leaving Katy between 6:30-7:00AM.  It's approx. 420 miles as mapped.  My wife has expressed interest in going which I'm sure will alter my plans a little.

I had a great time today making the journey to Cushing.  A little hotter but the ride home was just as nice.  Enjoyed seeing fellow Mootsters Dave, Brad and Jim as well as meeting some but not all of the others y'all brought with you.  That was a good crowd!  I had to deviate from the "long way home" that I had planned due to weather but I ended up riding through one of the worse storms I've ever ridden in anyways.  As usual, good ride, good food and good people.

Hey everyone,

Sorry I didnt make it out! Turns out that I had Fire Training. I was so hoping to get to go! Getting Desperate for a good ride! But looks like for the next three months, every Saturday will be tied up with training. Between that and work, looks like I wont have much free time for a while! But if anyone get bored and wants to ride out to Tomball during the week, well FEEL FREE TO COME BY!!

Hopefully I'll be able to see/meet/ride soon!

Special Thanks to Jim for organizing the 'Cushing, TX' ride and eat.  Met some nice folks with Shireman from the Dedicated Riders group, and friends of Jim from Van and Canton area. Very good food.  Great company.  Jim took us on the less traveled route to Cushing from Van.  Very curvy, hilly.
