Hello all!
New member to this forum with my first post.
I have a '82 v45 Magna with a problem.
Replaced the front tire last year.
Enjoyed riding after working on the ole girl for 2 years, finally!!
Love that bike.
Anyhow she seems to have developed a leak around the bead area in several places. Been putting of fixing it till now.
Problem is, I already snappeda 3/8'' drive ratchet with a cheater bar trying to loosen the axle. I already loosened the pinch bolt but she wont loosen up.
Judging from the pictures in my Clymer, these are not '82 model forks!
The head is a 17mm and has an indention for a centering punch in both sides.
Is it possible that these are left handed threads?
Is this thing even threaded at all, or pressed in? I dont want to damage anything else, and figured I would get some advice before continuing.
Yeah, I know.
I did replace the front tire myself, with help, but I cant seem to remeber?
Something suspicious the first go round, lodged in the back of my head.
Im a tard?
How about it fellas?
That's a tuff one, Greyhead. I have a third gen Magna and did not have a problem. I watched Jeff Heard take off the front of his vintage Magna and do not remember any of those issues.
Goog luck! I am sure Jeff will have the answer.

Best as I can recall at this moment(it's late and I'm tired) there are no left handed threads on the forks. Might try an impact wrench and see if that will loosen it. It might be cross threaded but that seems very unlikely. If you are near Dallas come by and we'll see what can be done with it.
I just did that on my '84. Did you remove the pinch bolt completely? I used a 17mm 1/2 drive with a breaker bar and it was no problem. How long was your cheater bar. These thing are supposed to be torqued to 40-47 ft lbs. I wish I had used the torque wrench to pull mine just to see where it was. When I replaced it I went to 45 ft lbs.
You know, I have two 1/2'' drive breaker bars.
Loaned em both out and never got them back.
Had sneekin 'spicion I was going to have to go out and buy myself another one. Time to stop loaning stuff out without a deposit I guess?
Thanks for the info fellas. Time for some old fashion grunt work with the proper tool.
