I know in the past we have had dates by now. Vacation sign up for postal employees starts the end of Nov. Just wondering if there will be any dates by then?
It is not up to me to decide, but I will propose for consideration June 6-10, 2012 (Wednesday thru Sunday.)
I am also proposing a location in Central Texas Hill Country, or maybe Big Bend National Park?
What do you guys think?
June 6-10 works for me. Hill Country and Big Bend are both great choices. I hope #9 wasn't the last MootMag (especially since I missed it).

You guys are KILLING me!!!
Big Bend National Park... 1,547 Miles..
I Know - A LOT further for Troy.. Coming from Germany!! Let's see him IronButt that!! He he he he
Do MM's always end on Father's Day? just asking :-?
You really enjoy getting that Tie that much
David, at least in the U.S., Father's Day is always celebrated (more like somewhat observed in my house) on the 3rd Sunday in June. In 2012 this is June 17, the Sunday following the dates proposed by Iragan.
ya, no problem here with the dates. Heck, I usually get up and cook breakfast on father's day, something I have always done since kids. Boy, I would sure hate to miss that next year....(inserting sarcasm)....
I had occasion to visit with an engineer with the Park Service yesterday on another matter, involving Big Bend National Park. He said the peak time is in the winter, because it can be quite hot in the summer -- he mentioned 120 degrees -- and I remember the last time I was there in June 1963, I left my MGB parked for three days with the windows up, and the cover on the steering column that encloses the turn signals, etc. melted into the mechanism. Maybe Big Bend is not such a "hot" idea, after all.
Hill country still sounds attractive. Will look around some. Lots of good roads besides "the threes" that we ride from Koyote ranch...

I ditto that.
I would love to ride Big Bend, but not in the summer. This idea got killed before as a MOOTMaG location for that reason.
While we are throwing ideas around, I would like to propose Turner Falls/Arbuckle Mountains in Oklahoma again for consideration as a MOOTMaG 10 site.

I vote for near Lufkin or Beaumont , TX... :-)

That is what I thought. I just know I have been to one MM and it ended on FD.
I like either one of those locations being Ok or Hill Country. Hill country would probably get a better turn out only because of distance, but I would try to show up to either one.
Am I the only one starting to feel like Mootmag won't make it to double digits?
Jeff Atkins
No you are not the only one.
What, I show up and people loose hope?
I haven't lost hope just begining to wonder.

Nope, it's just now that you showed up, everyone has seen it all!
Who's on the committee? Have you guys decided on a place to go?
It seems the consensus is Texas Hill Country. Rick and I have big plans to check out some places around Lake Buchanan - Llano area, but we have excuses -- Rick's bike was still in pieces last time I contacted him, and I am nursing a hip injury requiring Physical Therapy. Will be at least two weeks before I can play tennis or ride again.
We can always default to Koyote Ranch, if other places are not attractive. We have had good times there, and it seems to be recovering from the slump we found it in last time we were there.
Sounds like a plan Lawrence, has anyone contacted Greg or Allen, keep everyone posted as to what you guys come up with.
All is not lost just a slow start please post your ideas here and we can get things started things may take a shift to other people for info and getting it rolling but I see no reason to say 10 won't happen. I still have MY Magna LOL and she is ready to go.
How about Tallahassee!
How about Pensacola LOL ya never know LOL

Figures you would be up this early on a Sunday morning...
No Rest for the Wicked
If we're going Florida... How bout Key West!!!! We can all ride as a "gang"
.........maybe group sounds better. That's probably farther than Hoot-to-Big Bend.
I am not riding back to Key west in the middle of Summer on a bike ever again LOL Scratched it off the bucket list LOL Dang that was a HOT ride but awesome glad I did it
Ok heres the deal talked with Greg and we are working on a plan ! Now we all know this is the BIG 10 so we need to make it big. Now I do not want to lose people but we talked about the Dragon and or North New Mexico into Colorado now if this mean we drop a bunch of people I would rather stay close then. I understand that is a long ride for alot of folks heck who am I kidding for me too.
So everyone throw the ideas out here and we can start planning. I am not opposed to Koyote Ranch I like being close to my friends and everyone will be able to here the banjo thru out the whole camp
Lets start posting names of who is coming and other things like do we take up a fee for stuff T Shirts we will have to jump on those pretty quick if we are going that route it needs to happen soon. I will keep you all posted on what we have going and Greg and I will discuss what you all bring up.
I am still looking for some dates need to see if I can get them off vacation sign up at the post office was back in Dec.
Same week as 9 would be best.. right between tornado and rainy seasons...
I'm 90% sure I'm in where ever we go.
Allen, When you say BIG, do you mean
1) more participants?
2) new territory to ride?
3) longer time?
4) more eats?
What?
It appears to me that some of these objectives are mutually exclusive, and we are probably not going to prioritize them here on the forum.
Looking back at the first page of this post, June 6-10 was proposed, and seemed suitable to those that commented. It was noted that Father's Day is June 17, the weekend after the 10th. So why don't we settle on the 6-10th, so folks can arrange their vacations? Wherever we go, procrastinating on the date reduces participation.
I am not in favor of the Dragon, although if that is what the group decides, I would try to make it. I think it will be both hot and crowded in June. I would prefer Northern NM, Southern CO. If we hang pretty much in the mountains, it is not too hot. Spent time there with family as a kid in Red River, Taos, etc. We could think about visiting Mesa Verde, but it is much hotter.
Let's do it!
Ok to answer your questions in order here we go.
1 Heck yeah if we can get 50 plus people I would be ecstatic.
2 Well no and yes like I pointed out we "could " take it further out but I am also leery of keeping people away because it is so far I mean the core people will be there for the most part but sure would like to see some new faces for the big 10.
3 No I think the time is just right being the middle of the year vacations are hard to come by for most so we are probably fine with what we have.
4 Heck yeah show me the FOOD
Ok I am going to be off the boat Jun 12th to the 26 so for me any where in there and in July 10th to the 24 those are my days off I hope we can work around those but if not well I will have to move some days around.
Ok another thing I well my better half Deborah is going to take care of the T-Shirts so we will have them made I have a design in mind and will let you all in on it in a while after we get it done.
So what else do we need sponsors anybody or everybody get out and beat the bushes and see if you can get some stuff to give away to our MOOTsters this is our 10th year lets have a great time.
Thanks, Allen.
July would work for me, too, especially if we pick a high altitude spot.
Just my thoughts unless we plan to meet somewhere and make riding to any of these long locations part of the adventure a lot of time will be spent just getting there, deals gap from arlington is 911 miles, mesa verda is 880 miles, taos is 660 miles no matter how you look at it thats 2 days to get there and 2 days to get back doesn't leave a lot of time to enjoy riding and spending time with the group. Just my thoughts.

I know that feeling! You could all pull a Troy and do it easily in a day!
My Run to Alabama was just over 600 and that was a pretty good days ride for me!
I prefer:
June over July (heat)
Closer rather than farther (more riding during the time at the location).
I too prefer June over July due to the better chance of cooler (less hot?) weather. I also prefer Hill Country to other destinations given its proximity. I know most of us have ridden the 3 Sisters, been to Luckenbach, seen the bats, visited the motorcycle museum/fake Stonehedge and toured Kerrville/Fredricksburg before, but it is fun everytime and holds some great memories for me (Lawrence, think leaving Koyote Ranch at 2:00 pm when it was 100 degrees, dry as a bone only to pull into Kerrville about 3 hours later soaked, having ridden thru a thunderstorm that dropped the temp. to about 65. Remember them having to mop the floor when we left the restaurant? Where else can you go from sweating to shivering in 3 hours?). And, for most of us, a trip to the Hill Country requires less time, effort and money than other locations.
Having stated my preferences, I will try my best to attend #10 whenever and where ever it is held. The sooner the dates/location are selected the better.
My 2 cents which is worth substantially less.
Jeff Atkins
June 6 - 10, 2012 IS the date!

MOOTMag # 6 Beavers Bend SP, Beavers Bend, OK
MOOTmag # 7 Koyote Ranch, Medina, TX
MOOTMag # 8 Caddo Lake, Uncertain, TX
MOOTMag # 9 Eureka Springs, AR
MOOTMag # 10 ?????????
New Mexico would be a nice change... I know its a bit far, but several of us have trucks and trailers to carry several bikes etc.
Out East Great Smokey National Park or Cherokee National Forest etc would give us INCREDIBLE area to ride and still reach the dragon IF we wanted.
As one can see by above listed locations We have been in the Texas Hill Country 4 of the 9 events.
It's been awhile since I've posted. I've not made a Moot event although I've been a member since May 09.
My sons ride now and they ride 1st gen. Magnas. I've wanted to go to an event but schedules have not allowed it.
This year the date is good but if I may I'd like to throw in my 2 cents. It appears 4 out of 5 events in the Hill country bothers some.
I love riding the Hill country, I have been riding there since 1980, I have explored so many back roads and found myself lost many times....no gps back then! I've rode all over the country and there are so many great places to ride but I just think meeting everybody and having the time to relax and ride with some of you guys interests me the most. Regardless, I'll take my trip to Colorado and beyond every year when I have riding and exploring on the agenda and the time to do it.
I'll try to make it with my sons where ever but hoping for the Hill country.
Am kinda leaning towards the Hill Country also. It looks like I'm going to have another rough year with family and work and a 2 day trip to get to the destination and 2 days back could be a problem.
There is some good information for places to stay on this site:
http://www.touringdepot.com/mcfriendly.html
Never been to any of these places. I was looking for a place to stay when I ride to Big Bend in March.

I know I don't have any say so this year since I won't be attending, but...............
To me MM was a "me vacation" with out the kids so I was good traveling to anywhere to be with friends and RIDE.
"If" I were there my vote would be East so we could do the Dragon. That is a bucket list type of a trip that most would never make otherwise.
I had plans for there this spring but got diverted here. Now I will have to settle for riding through Switzerland, France, Italy and Austria. Maybe even Belgium. Dang.
But I would trade it in a heartbeat to ride with y'all for the MM's.
