I pulled my 99 Magna out of the garage today. While I was cleaning the bike I noticed that the steel oil line going up the left side of the engine was damp with oil. I do not notice any type of puddling any were on the Eugine. Just that the line is damp. The only way I noticed it is there is some build up of road grim clinging to it. Is this something I should be concerned with? Is this a sign of something bad starting to show it's ugly face ?
I had the same thing on the glow bike...
Most blame it on the airbox...
It is a normal problem on the gen 3's and it gets worse, but not really bad as time goes on..
Hoot is this blow by that is collecting in the air box?

That is what others seem to think...
It's always the left front cylinder area. It gets blamed as the bike sits on the kickstand, causing the oil to pool in the front left side of the airbox.. I was never able to confirm or deny this, so maybe yes, maybe no..
I just know I had to wash off the engine a little more often..
I will say that with between 80 & 90K on the yellow bike, it still eat NO oil over thousands of miles.
Thank you Hootman. That's what I thought. It's not that bad but noticeable. Nothing that a couple of shots of Simple Green will not take care of.
I don't think the oil collects in the air box so much as it gets forced out as a mist: if it only leaked out it would collect in one spot as it drips.
Mine gets cleaned off once a year and uses no oil between changes.
50,000 miles and going strong (2000 Magna).
My bike is a 99 and I'm just about ready to turn 20K on it. The bike was not run very hard by the previous owner. They only did 7-800 miles on it every year. The bike is my daily commute ride now and has running like brand new since I've owned it.. But the bike gets worked. Last year I put 13,000 miles on it.I change the oil every 4-5000 miles. I'm running 10-40 Syn in it. The ambient temp here does not get hot enough to go up in viscosity. It does not burn or drip any oil that is noticable. Except for the slight oil wetness on the steel tube on the left side.
