Title: another exhaust question
Post by: indianpride77 on May 24, 2012, 02:02:10 PM
ok so i am looking into changing the sound of my exhaust and came across some slip ons by a company called cycle shack. The have 2 1/2" slip ons and 1 3/4 slip ons. now I'm being told that these will not work for the magna. is this true? granted i will have to check the size of my pipe but if it's a slip on won't any slip work as long as it's the correct size pipe? thanks in advance

I would think one would have to support them aft of the exhaust pipe where they slip on.  Perhaps the support brackets are in the wrong place??

I have two '96 models, both with aftermarket pipes.  Welded to the inside of the pipes is a hanger that bolts to a bracket on the frame.  I presume this is the same way the stock pipes are supported, even though I have never owned any.

If you look closely, there appears to be a bracket that runs between the pipes..
Are you planning on buying two sets, one for each side of the bike?

Thing is with these pipes it isn't just a straight pipe.  The lower pipes do slip right on but the top pipe has a smaller 45 degree pipe attached that slips onto the header pipe.  For rear support on the stock pipes there was a welded piece that bolted to the frame.  On the aftermarket pipes I have had there were individual tabs on each pipe that lined up then bolted to the frame.

In essence you can use those slip-ons but you're going to have to do some cobbling and modifying to get them to fit and/or work.

You would really have to Cobb up the pipes on the left side as the pipes are made to be on the right... This means you would have to mount the left ones upside down as the mounting bracket will be on the wrong side...

Would the Cobra not be less expensive than V&H, but viable alternative?
