Title: How do you install crash bars on the 3rd Gen Magna
Post by: MagnaPHX on January 23, 2013, 12:03:35 AM
I just bought a set of bars like this with the seller saying that the hardware to mount them is already on my bike.

Does anyone know where there is a manual or how to go about installing this hardware?

While they appear to be similar to the Hondaline bars, they are definitely bigger (if the picture is an accurate representation) and may or may not work on the bike.  I seem to remember the Hondaline bars coming with their own mounting hardware (replacing one of the engine mount bolts and another bolt to compress the bracket ends around the frame).

Greetings from Phoenix hootmon.

It most definately helps.

Edited - Do you know if it came with its own hardware or did you purchase it seperately?

They are easy to install however you will need a longer motor mount bolt the one right below the radiator it is 4and 1/2 inches and you will need 4 and 3/4 when you take the bolt out go to a hardware store and purchase 2 longer bolts you will also need a spacer or a couple washers to take up some space the u shaped part of the crash bars go around the frame and you will need a nut and bolt to lock them down.

Hootmon I had at one time the ones you have. The ones in the picture look a lot bigger.
To me they look more like the ones on the first Gen Magna then the Third Gen.

Hella thanks guys!  :D This was my first install for crash bars so I was flying a little blind.

It's amazing how the internet lets people of common thought put their heads together.

The final result from a wrenching session in my garage on Sunday afternoon and a trip to Ace Hardware.
