Our family's summer calendar is already being filled. Father's Day is June 21 this year.
I propose June 3-7 for MOOTMAG this year. Location TBD.
What say ye, fellow MOOTSTERS?
Sounds good to me!
Sounds good to me. Let's go.
Too early to tell but I see no issue with it. Count me in too!
Mike
I don't think I'll be able to make these dates  The annual week long charity ride I do with friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry, is June 1-8, a loop SW out of Nashville including NW Arkansas
But I do have a MOOTMaG gift to forward on for the group. I am now a bachelor... so it is a very useful (and cool) Christmas gift that didn't get given out
Wish I could make it though!
Hop Along
Probably won't make it this year. My better half and I are going to the British Isles June 7-20. Will be lucky to get off two weeks together for that trip. I have been to 11 straight MM's. Time to brake the string?

Going to miss you two guys Scott and Brad.
Didn't know you two were married Scott, the once or twice I met her she seemed like a fun gal but best of luck to both of you.

Was and still is... and we still work together!!! Life is always interesting-or at least that's how I like it
Scott
Dates are good for me.
I proposed Mena, AR
and Mena Mountaintop Cabins as HQ
http://menamtntopmotelcabins.com/
Hey, Dave, these cabins look attractive on their web site. Have you used them before?
Have you thought of negotiating a discount deal, or are we going to have to commit early to even get in?
Great choice -- a bit of a haul from Austin, but hey, we can do this. I like this area for riding, sight-seeing, and (most importantly!) good eats!
I had DRNT scheduled in last fall for this setup and the weather crashed my party, so I haven't seen the property yet.
I'll check with the gal over there and see what we can work out.
I talked to the gal at Mena Mountaintop Cabins about our idea. The boss dog says they can rent those cabins for full price in June, so unfortunately, I can't get us a deal for a group.
Based on a family cabin with a kitchen, if you break the price down among 3 people or one couple and two people, it works out to $46.00/night. Is that busting anybody up?
Since we are not committed to anyone right now, you guys look the pricing over on the website and chime in with feedback. Mena Mountaintop Cabins has plenty of beds open right now.
This thread just died, huh?
Are we going to do this MOOTMaG 2015 or not???
Has not died to me, if this is where we are going I already booked.
I wouldn't miss it; count me in.
Rick Frankenberger
Count me in, been wanting to ride AR for a while now. Gonna have to make it cheap though - dumped the tech job at the new year and haven't yet decided what I want to be when I grow up - so definitely need to split a room/cabin with someone. I can handle $50 per night, would rather not exceed that by much. PM me if you need a roommate.
Looks like Brad and I will both be AOL for this one. I have a new job and don't have the vacation I did in the past. This will be the first year I've missed two in a row.
Time to get this thing going. Unless someone has another idea, I'm ready to commit to Mena, Arkansas as HQ (Sounds like Terry already has done this).
Dates : June 3 (Wednesday) to June 7 (Sunday)
Location Headquarters: Mena Mountaintop Cabins http://menamtntopmotelcabins.com/
I'll contact Geneva at MMC and see what she has available.
Remember if you bunk in with two other people you can get the family cabin rate down to around $ 46.00 a person per night.
I would like Mena.
I have had a cabin reserved for Lawrence and me since mid February. I can cancel it if the venue changes, but it is a great area to ride.
Mena Mountaintop cabins tells me they still have all but two cabins rented for our MOOTMaG dates. My guess is the two that are rented are Terry and Rick.
Let's do this.
That's one of our favorite places to ride. Wish we could make it.
Work sure is an inconvenience, ain't it? Two more years is all they're gettin' from me.
I've reserved cabin # 6 and may have a spare bunk - I'll let ya'lll know after I hear from Russ and Jack
Looks like the girl wants to come to MOOTMaG too this year, and as she's not accustomed to distance riding, I'll be trucking or trailering to this one. Good news for you all, as this means that I should have room to bring two bikes this time! Who wants to play with and/or make fun of my electric bike?
I would like to ride it! I will not make fun of YOUR exhaust.
What is the schedule for this years get together?

Hey Jeff
I can't make MOOTMaG due to the charity ride I do overlapping.... also in Arkansas.
Need a layover spot in OKC on the way up? Come visit... I'll let you stay for free in return for a zip around on the electric bike :-)

Thanks for the offer Scott, we'll probably do the drive in one shot though. Give me a shout next time you're around Austin though!

Excellent Dave.
You always sacrifice to come way north for these things. I really respect that (just like the time Hoot came all the way from Florida to Eureka Springs Arkansas, just outstanding).
First time I've logged into the forum for a while. Been meaning to just to see if/when MOOT MaG will be. As it stands right now I plan on being there.

Good deal.
Always fun having you along.
I have had my eye on this for awhile, but have been unable to commit. I had surgery to remove a tumor from my left kidney on 4/17. I am home doing well and plan on returning to work this week. Assuming my recovery progresses as it should, I will be ready to ride well before June 3.
Anybody still have a bunk available? I probably won't be able to arrive until June 4.
Jeff Atkins
I still have a bunk available, perhaps two. First one to commit get choice of large or small. IM me for details.
Got my reservations. Looking forward to seeing everyone. If there's anything I can do to help facilitate this years MOOT MaG just let me know.

Here, gentlemen is a true supporter. Dobie did not wait to be asked...
My vote would be Smoked U, who seems to be the de-facto leader this year. Dave, suppose you send Dobie a PM with your address?
Ditto to the addy... I think I still have it. I have a er... leftover Christmas gift that didn't get gifted that I think someone might appreciate.
At least, if I'd had it *last* year there might have been less battery maintenance issues all 'round!!!
Sadly I can't make the MOOTMaG-I'll be elsewhere in the region on a week long charity ride-but for all the help I've had from other MOOTsters over the years it's definitely my turn to Pay It Forward :-)

You can send them to me again this year.
Email me and I will send my shipping address.
I just took my group DRNT to Mena this past weekend and stayed at the Mena Mountaintop Cabins.
I have some points I want to pass on to all of you that will be staying or visiting that location.
The location is 6.2 miles north of Hatfield Arkansas. There is a sign at the driveway, but it is easy to miss.
The driveway has a very sharp switchback to the right and climbs an incline over 30 degrees. You need to get into first gear at the bottom of the drive and be committed. There is no stopping on this slope unless you want to fall.
The drive continues up the mountainside and the only flat spot is all the way up to the top of the drive past the office and the cabins. Head for that parking lot and walk back down to the office. You can survey the property at that time and figure out where you want to park. My group opted to remain at the top of the property in the parking lot and hike up and down the hill.
The cabins are very new and very clean. I slept in the single top bunk like a rock and felt good every morning I got up.
There was not a large community grill, so we used the individual grills located in front of every cabin.
The staff does not automatically clean your cabin every day. If you want this done you need to tell them and it will happen on a daily basis.
The property is a short ride south of Mena so food and gas are close.
Geneva, the property manager, is a sweetheart and is looking forward to our group's visit.
Here are a few pictures of the driveway and slopes.
I am really up in the air on this one. I won't know if I can make until the time gets closer. I will try to keep you all posted.
Dave, I'll be towing in with a rig about the size of the one you brought to Leaky last year. Will this switchback be a problem for me? If so, is there alternate parking below the switchback?
Got your PM, Dave, thanks. I think I'll send some risers instead of the peg extenders this year, give the rider some comfort instead of the passenger for a change.
So it'll be risers, chain guard, & brakestay. I'll get them to you in plenty of time. Hope the guys like them.

My group had two trucks with trailers and had no problem negotiating the drive or turning around at the top of the hill/parking in the lot area up there. There's plenty of room at the top of the hill.
This driveway is just a challenge for motorcycles and riders who get caught "napping".

Thanks again Dobie for your contributions this year. You are a great guy for doing this. It would be nice to have you attend one year when you have time in your schedule.
I'd like that, too. We had a great time in Eureka Springs back in, what was it, '04? Val and I are allocating time for one long trip per year, plans already made for the Black Hills and Badlands of SD this year. We're leaving on July 5, taking 2 weeks minimum, maybe 3. Gotta get out of the SD area before the big Sturgis meet in August. I have absolutely no desire to spend a lot of time around 100,000 Harleys with straight pipes and drunken riders.
It does not look like there is any camping room for tents. Any ideas on something in the neighborhood?
Steven Goldstein (applied for but never got a forum ID LONG TIME AGO) is looking for a bunk for Thursday & Friday night.
His email is steven.goldstein@rentacenter.com.

Bob,
I don't think Allen has been around in a while and he was the person who took over approving New members, I think they need to add another person who is still around that can approve new members.
You might PM Allen about that person.
I don't know who might have room left but someone may pop in here, I happen to be staying in-town (Mena) at a motel (I think Executive Inn). I would have to go back and look, I reserved the room a few months back.
Are you coming Bob or just stopping by?

I did not see anything from Steven but you might let him know that I've opened up registration once more so if he wants to apply again he'll get a self registration email that will allow him to become a member. Ride during the day, party all night. LOL. Seriously, let's do Queen Wilhelmina Inn for lunch one afternoon. That's always been a good stopping spot during a ride. Of course last time we rode that the weather changed from clear to completely fogged out during the ride up to the Inn. Made for an interesting ride. LOL.
Speaking of weather, I don't know about you guys but I'm bringing full rain gear. Of course, every time I have the gear I don't need it. It's when I leave it at home that the skies usually open... Maybe in the interest of drought recovery I should "forget" the suit..
Fill your boots up enough to bring Lake Travis up to pool level, what is it, 55 feet low?
The pig trails or about 100 miles north of Mena they are 16 miles of very curvey twisty roads up near Fayetteville. They might be good for one day.
+1 for the Pig Trail. Rode it last month and it was a great ride.
I'll keep an eye out on y'alls plans; I'm riding with another group that week and will miss MOOTMaG. We will be in northern Arkansas as y'all gather.
Pig Trail riding day is the 3rd. We are staying at Petit Jean, heading into sourthern MO on the 4th IIRC.

Having just come back from Mena, the bad news is the lodge is still under construction and is closed. When we do the Talimena Scenic we will need to lunch in Talihena, OK at Pam's Hateful Hussy.
One other route you guys might want to consider would be a loop from Mena to Mount Magazine. I have done this and it has some nice roads and a fantastic lodge on the mountain for a lunch stop. Mount Nebo (a very fascinating point of interest and a wicked switchback climb to the top) might be a possible add to this route, but, it would be a long ambitious day event.
A big loop can be designed through the Quachita National forest perhaps to Hot Springs as well. Again some nice riding mountain roads here as well.

This is a workable day ride as well.
The "Arkansas Dragon" (Arkansas 123 north of Clarksville AR) up and back would also be an ambitious day ride.
Since I live in Waldron, 33 miles north of Mena, I'll hook up with you guys that week and finally get to meet some of you.
That would be Great John.
Tent camping is available 1/2 mile from Mena Montaintop Cabins at Shadow mountain.

LOL, will do. Added a news item to the forum. MOOT MaG 13 information now displayed prominently whenever the forum pops up.
This is partially off topic (possibly a Marketplace entry), but I was wondering if anyone was selling an aftermarket Corbin or Mustang seat for my 98 Magna? And, if so, if they'd be willing to take it to Mena for me to purchase in June? I'd also be willing to meet you in the Dallas area. My butt would thank you!
There's a few out on fleabay. Here's one example. Not a bad price either.
http://r.ebay.com/ZwXp4q
Marc
I saw this one, but couldn't bear to get a seat with purple flames on it. I suppose I could get it recovered; at that point it might be a better idea to buy a new one. I'll keep looking. Thanks!
I was planning on bringing both seats (Corbin and Mustang) to Mena with me as others had been interested in seeing the difference at past MaGs. I was planning on selling them with the bike but if someone makes me an offer on one I probably won't refuse. ;) I'll for sure have them with me though, and invite any and all to test fit them on their bike, go for a ride, try before you buy, etc.
I have some other spares I'll bring as well. Leatherman (I think) saddlebags, windscreen of some sort, SuperMagna pillion and strap... Anyone interested in a full set of Chuck Crites' Cobalt Racing fairings for a 2nd generation Interceptor? I've been trying to get rid of these suckers for years... If nothing else, some of it may make for good raffle fodder.
My girlfriend has officially bailed on the Mena trip - she can't get the time off from her new job. However, since I already have the truck and trailer lined up, I'm still bringing all three bikes, and now I have a load of room left. I can easily bring one more bike and a passenger or three if anyone in the Austin area or between Austin and Mena want a lift up and/or back. Save the rubber for the Arkansas roads! No use leaving it all on the interstate! PM me if interested and we'll work out the details.
Dave, this also frees up my schedule a bit. What days do you have the cabin reserved? Count me in for all nights you've got it unless I pick up a passenger whose schedule is more restricted than mine.

A heads up. My group was planning to ride the Pig Trail next week among other roads. It seems the rains have washed out part of the Pig Trail (aka hiway 23) just north of Cass.

Happy riding..

Says Landslide, wonder if they would run blade over it by next, I was looking forward to the Pig Trail.
I'm not sure Terry. Our group is re-routing. We have to get from Petit Jean state park to Fayetteville for a provided lunch from supporters. Apparently the re-route adds a good hour+ to the ride up (and then another hour back...)
Long story short though-it is an option to ride up to Cass, then turnaround. That is about halfway up the tail if I understand it correctly. If we didn't have donors giving us free food we wouldn't be going to Fayetteville...
Scott
So instead of Pig Trail it's now Pig Fail.
By the way, I got your package Scott for the numbers drawing. Thanks for your contribution.
If anybody else has anything they wish to bring to be door prized it would be appreciated.
Glad to hear Dave, it is ready to go in case anybody has need for it pre-door prize :-) I recall I could have used it perhaps last year lol

If anyone is headed up through Dallas on Thursday to attend the Meet and Greet, I'm planning on heading up at that time. Let me know if you'd like to meet up and ride!
I am tentatively planning on leaving the Dallas area around 0800 Wednesday morning.
I will be trailering two bikes, bringing tools and door prize/raffle stuff.
If you are interested in running with me, you can throw your luggage in the truck.
The weather looks really good at this point for the trip and rally. Mena is showing high 80's and mid 60's at night. If the humidity settles down, it should make for some good day riding and outstanding evening B.S,ing.
Several months ago I had said I was going to MOOTMAG 2015, but I'm not able to make it. I'm trying to get some maintenance done on the bike and economics got me this year. I will pray for everyone's safe travels and daily bike rides and good conditions.

Pig Trail
Talking to several others and here is what I have been told.
QuoteQuote
1. "There was an article in the paper last week and it had pics of motorcycles and a few cars going around it. It appears that one lane is still open, but I don't know for how long."
2. "Was there last Saturday. They had patched the road and had One lane open to local traffic. You should be ok unless they have torn into it . "
3. "It's closed, more cracks opened up "
Since the last person reported it look less promising BUT I will probably try anyway and see if I can get through or ask locals when I get there.
My plans are for Mary Ellen and I to go up on Tuesday and stay around Ozark, ride the Pig trail to Eureka Springs and end up in Mena Wed. night. This can easily change.
Hootmon, I hope you are packed and ready, I better see you there! If not you will be picked up and ten lashes. "Just returned from the pig trail.
I never went further than the overlook, it is CLOSED
the state guys are there keeping folks from trying, they are under pressure to open it for the Wakarusa crowd, but apparently its so bad they are not gonna even open one lane.

it is closed from just north or mulberry mountain on the south side, the road is barricaded, and they are patrolling it. "
I am leaving in the morning.
Rick (Skyride) and I are coming on Wednesday. We will be trailering. Hope to be there in time to share dinner with whomever is available.
I'll be trailering in on Wednesday, see you all there! Honk if you see me on the road!
MagnaMan and I will be leaving the Houston area around 0900 tomorrow morning. Figure on a few stops for gas/rest/bathroom breaks and anticipating arrival in Mena between 4-6 pm.
Marc
And lunch... We'll make a lunch stop of some kind. ;-)
Head 'em up. Move 'em out.
Jerry Turner and I will be leaving Dallas at 0800 in the morning and will arrive at Mena Mountaintop Cabins mid afternoon.
If some of you want to, we can go into Mena and eat our evening meal.
As usual, I will be bringing two bikes and tools and prizes (and alkeehaul).
Please note, Mena is a dry area and beer and hard stuff is all the way over in Broken Arrow, OK. (over an hour turnaround). The folks at Mena Mountaintop just want us to keep a lower profile than usual with the juice and it's all cool. Buy it and bring it if you want it around.
We can also do a group cookout one night with the grills.
If your coming up you need to come up on hwy 37 out of Paris. All the other roads to broken bow are closed due to high water.
I was just about to post something about that. I'm in New Boston now and can't get through on SH8. Looks like I'll need to go all the way to Hope, AR before I can turn north.
Check your routes for closures before heading out. Red River doesn't want to let anyone across!
Sorry guys. I should have popped on here with a warning. As far as I know , US 75 is open. I know that I-30 is open. Everything crossing the Red River is closed down between US-75 north of Dallas and I-30 North of Texarkana. It's likely to be that way for a week at least.
Hwy 37 is the key. The Red River looks like the Ohio River now.
Come up through Clarksville Texas and cross on over to Idabel. OK
I made it back home ok.
Thanks everyone for showing up and continuing the tradition.
Thank you Dobie for the Cycylistic products for our drawing. They are always very much appreciated.
Made it home safely about 3pm. I always enjoy seeing everyone great times and fun riding with awesome people. Always looking forward to the next time. Just wanted to say thank you very much Dobie for your continued support of this group. And a big thank you to Terry for your support we do appreciate it.
Awesome riding, terrific fellowship, good food, and great accommodations. I was telling Steve that I think of these multi-day events as a riding clinic, because I always leave as a more knowledgeable rider. Not just riding technique, but maintenance and equipment from gadgets to trailers, and reacting to a wide variety of unforeseen circumstances.
A big thanks to www.cycle-istic.com and http://www.cli-maxridinggear.com/ for the generous contributions, also to V4Jeff for contributing the USB adapter that I won only two days after finding out that, hey, I NEED one of those! A public thanks to Smoked U for taking the lead and making the entire event possible.
I'm already looking forward to next year, especially if Colorado or Big Bend ideas pan out. Outskirts of Austin might be an idea too.
Marty
I left Lawrence's at 5:30 and made it home myself a few minutes ago. Great time. Thank you guys for making it such a great time. I hauled off a bundle of door prizes; thanks to CLI-max, Cycleistics, Alamo Cycleplex, Dave, and all you great guys and gals.
Now to get ready for the next one.
Rick Frankenberger
Marc and I made it back to Houston / Katy area safely.
It was great meeting new faces and seeing the people I've known for years. I really enjoyed spending time with everyone. I also want to thank everyone for their help and compassion when I decided to do some helmet testing.
And thanks to Cycle-istic and Cli-Max for sponsoring our event as well.

Looking forward to the video.
Thanks for letting us drip all over your Airstream trailer.
Thanks for a great MOOTMAG, everyone. It was a really great experience meeting everybody and the rides were a total blast. I'm already looking forward to the next one!
Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I was immediately pressed into service with family matters.
It was a great gathering. Good rides and great people. Thanks to Dobie and Rick for generous donations, Dave for leadership, and Karen for impromptu hospitality.
Are we really "Too dumb to come in out of the rain"? As for me, the drought in Central Texas had gone on for so long, I just stood there and laughed with glee!
I hope Jesse is healing as fast as I am. While I am skipping tonight's tennis, I expect to play on Thursday.
Had a great time as always. Wonderful people, fantastic rides and good food plus bunches thanks to Dobie and Terry as well as Dave and others some great door prizes for the attendees.
I always look forward to MOOT MaG.
Marc
After a much longer than necessary drive I arrived home safe Sunday evening.
Huge thanks to all the MOOTMaG attendees for making this a great event once again. You guys are the best group I've ever ridden with by far, and it's all of you along with your passion for riding these machines that make MOOTMaG awesome year after year. Though my Magna is going up for sale shortly, I'm gonna' continue to ride with you guys until you kick me out!
Thanks too to Dobie, Terry, Scott, and all the others who contributed to the door prize pool. We had a great selection of stuff to choose from!
I'll sort the video and remove the trash files shortly. I'll have the torrent available as soon as I remember how to set up the seed.
Cheers all, and see ya' next year! I'll see if I can put together a proposal for a Colorado MOOTMaG. It's a bit of a drive but man is it worth it to ride those roads!
Yes I made it back.
Busy I have been and posted up photos in the other thread. Thanks to everyone who contributed, seems like most did in one way or another. For the ones who missed it there were some great Door Prizes.
You did miss out if you did not make it not only on the door prizes but the people, getting away from your troubles, great planned rides, good food, twisty roads, a chance to ride a Electric bike compliments of V4 Jeff, showing your maneuvering skills on some tight steep grades, great weather, chance to see the inside of a Air Stream :), a chance to meet our forum developers (you could pay them off like I did and get preferential treatment, they are on the take) 8).
Thanks again to Dave for doing the legwork on this again to make it happen.

Steve has a great looking paint job on his bike, if you get a chance post some photos Steve so others can see. Steve also rode home on his new great looking Cobra seat.

I think for every ad that Jeff posts on Craigslist, we'll just report him as scammer so they'll take the ad down and he'll have a Magna next year. ;-) Either that or you can just make sure whoever you sell it to will be a cool new MOOT member.

Cool. I won't have the FTP ready any time soon so I'll try to pull down the torrent and edit it together with my footage (minus my helmet testing run).

I think it would be a great "first". Go for it.

"Dumb" or just fun loving? It was memorable.

I'm healing... No broken bones. I got a few x-rays popped of the really sore spots just to be sure. But I can tell you I won't be playing tennis for a few more weeks.
I'm also going to get an air bag vest to go over my existing gear. Getting a 560 lb body slam on pavement still hurts even with CE Armour. I managed to mostly hit spots that did NOT have armor. He he.
Terry, do you guys carry them? If not let me know. I have identified four different brands and can send you the information.

Send the info, would one brand be Spidi?
Sorry I haven't been active, one girl on vacation and several projects going on at the wrong time.

GREAT to hear, Jesse. Thanks for the update! Have you had time to assess the damage to the bike? Anything we can help out with?
