Title: Tsubaki O-Ring Chain
Post by: TLRam1 on May 13, 2016, 10:18:28 PM
I put this in he wrong section where it filters some members out.

Reposting under Marketplace.

Posting here first.

I was only able to get one of these.

It is a Tsubaki Omega O-Ring Chain 530 x 130, as with most chains it will have to be shortened for the Magna. Retail on this chain is $176 as seen in the photo on the right side, it does have the Clip link from what I can make out looking and feeling through the plastic. It has not been opened, still sealed.

$80 + 7 shipping.

How do you feel about the "Clip link" part?
The plus, it makes it an install you can do with not special tools..

This may answer your question,

All my vintage bikes, in a matter of fact all my bikes until the Magna ran and still have clip links. These range from dirt bikes to my 3 street vintage bikes up to 750 cc. The vintage street bikes do not have the O-Ring chains, if that matters.

They do make a rivet link for this chain I just can't get one any longer, someone might be able to find one.

I was not clear you were selling the chain.. I thought you were just stating that you found a chain at a great price..
Glad you got it sold..

The more I think about it after you brought it up I am thinking of putting a clip link on my Magna. Dealing with the rivet link is a pain in the rear, the clip link would make it so much easier to mess with and I already run them on my other bikes. The other chains I buy for the Magna comes with a rivet link and that is what i use.

Replacing chains is one of the few things I take my bike to the shop for. AND it is because of the rivet link..
My dad (years ago) had a clip link on his Honda CB550.. He was ex- Air Force mechanic.. He took some wire and ran it around the inside of clip link to the outside and twisted it tight..he did not want it to come apart at high speed.. Maybe a bit over kill..
I know you know, but anyone else that may not know, there is a very specific direction the clip needs to be installed.. This is so that if the clip should bump anything, it forces the clip on and not cause the link to unclip..

I bought a "Tsubaki 530 Alpha Gold O-Ring Chain Rivet Link" from Amazon for $6.59, including shipping, to go with the chain (I confess -- bought the chain from Terry).  I am not sure if the clip link is inadequate when installed properly, as I have used one chain so attached, and wore it out without failure.  I am comfortable with the rivet links, and have an adequate chain press, so I guess it is a small insurance premium for peace of mind.

You're right Hoot there is a correct way to install the "clip". I have used whatever link came with the chain except on dirt bikes, I might have bought clip links, can't remember it has been so long.

I have installed rivet links too tight and they did not rotate freely like the other links so I am cautious to press it enough but not too much, of course than I wonder if I pressed it enough trying to get it perfect.

I have had a Tsubaki chain with clip on my 3G for over a year.  Routinely break 100 on the TX autobahns (HOV).  Never have had a problem.  Installing the clip requires reading and understanding the directions.  Installed incorrectly it will be pulled open.  Installed correctly it will always be under tension to remain closed.   It's not rocket science.
