Title: Rear turn signals
Post by: MarvinT on June 11, 2016, 04:57:42 PM
on the magna do the rear turn signals act as running light or only turn signals? Another way to ask this.... If I turn on the key should my both of rear turn signals light up, or do they only light up when signaling a turn.  The front ones are always on if the key is on.

The third generation Magnas work as you described. The rear turn signals are blinkers only.  The front ones double as running lights and blinkers.

By federal law (read it somewhere) the rear blinkers can not be running lights and blinkers unless they are red. So you would need to swap out lenses and probably do some extra wiring.

I changed my lenses to red and added a run-turn-brake modulator to the wiring.  The three red tail lights make me much more visible at night.

Where did you find the red lenses?

I did clear lenses and red LED's w/modulator , running lights/brake lights/turn signals.

Pre-answer to your question....I do not remember, it was so long ago.  :-P

I converted my rear blinkers to combo running lights and blinkers without changing the amber lens.  The one v65 I have also was converted before I purchased it.  I have ridden one or the just about everyday through 7 city jurisdictions with rear amber running lights for nearly 2 years.   No one has even said boo to me.   Yes it is illegal to have rear amber running lights but then again I consider things like that are only illegal when you get stopped.  Lighting on bikes has gotten out of hand with all the led accent lighting on bikes now.  Side clearance lights are required to be amber.  I have seen every color except that one.

I have added a kit to convert the rear turn signals into brake and turn signals.  Red brake and running, yellow turn .  Really works great and I certainly hope it makes me more visible. Information is here.  I also have the headlight modulator on there.

Just as a quality check, I've had these on mine for about 7-8 years and they still work great.
