Title: Sprocket size
Post by: slarson on June 03, 2006, 04:23:27 PM
Can someone verify something for me? I am getting the sprockets and chain changed byt the dealership. They are ordering the parts, and I think they are a little off on the front sprocket. They are ordering a JT 15 tooth for the front. Is it a 15 or a 16? I also read in the archives that someone thought that the JT sprockets ran a little small (meaning higher rpm's at speed?). Anybody?

Steve,

Stock gearing is a 16 tooth front and 40 tooth rear.  You can run a 15 tooth on the front as well.  A 15 tooth will give you quicker acceleration with the trade off being a little  more rpm's at highway cruising plus a little less gas mileage.

I have used a JT Sprocket before and even though it was listed as a 530 it was more of a 525 and the chain was kinda loose on it.  I used a sprocket from Sprocket Specialties and it seemed to fit much better.  I may have just gotten a bad one from JT however.
