Title: What to expect after 25,000 mile
Post by: MarvinT on September 24, 2016, 03:56:13 PM
I am approaching that number on my 03 Magna.  Is there any thing I should be considering either replacing or saving $$ to replace soon?

Nothing major, new tires, RR and cam chain tensioner.
Have you flush out the brake fluid? Adjust the rear brake.

Where are you located? We're going to have a wrench session in the Houston area in October.

Just like ttooee said, At 25,000 miles I would just flush the coolant and brake fluid and inspect and adjust the brakes. The cam tensioner and regulator / rectifier can be left alone unless they fail.  But you may want to save up for them. ;-)

The only other thing would be checking the valve clearance. Checking the clearance is not hard but changing/adjusting the clearance is a little more involved. You have to be careful about taking it to a dealership for that because I hear they will charge you for the full time of adjusting the valves  even if the checking shows they are all in spec.

There's a lot of people that think you don't have to check the valves until 50,000 miles (Honda says 15,000 miles).  I have found one Magna at 15,000 miles that did need a valve adjustment so based upon that I would say check them at least.

Hey all, I've got a 97 magna vf750c. And I just hit 90k miles, on the verge of a re-wire, just replaced the rectifier.  Flushed oil, coolant. And did the brakes anything else I should do?

Check your steering head bearing. When the front tire is off the bike, turn the handle left and right. It should be smooth and no knink. The OEM bearing are ball bearings and they will leave an imprint dead center for all the bumps and pot holes the bike have seen. I replace mine with All-Balls bearings and they are needle bearings.
