Title: Quick fix for leaky carbs
Post by: ttooee on March 16, 2017, 11:25:08 AM
About 4 months ago I thought I fixed the leaky #1 carb by removing needle valve clean it and reinstalled. I did fixed it at that time but two weeks ago, I went to start it and it was leaking again. I was going to pull and replace all the needle vavles, but then I ran across a posting on motorcycle forum and found a quick simple solution.
The solution is to use something like a chop stick (I used a paint stirring stick), place one end on the carburetor and tap the other end with a block of wood. That was all it needed to free up the needle valve and stopped the leak. It was so simple I tapped the other 3 carbs for good measure.
I can't say this will fix all leaky carbs but sure worth a try.

Now that you got it un-stuck - run some SeaFoam thru the system.. It will help get rid of any gunk that is making the needle stick..
Worth a try!! Maybe you won't have to carry a stick and a hammer around with you!! LOL
But thanx for the tip!

It already has Seafoam in it and a full tank 2 months ago. Most of the fuel evaporated since. Had to switch to reserve after getting the needle valve free.

Most of the fuel evaporated after two months??  Mine do not lose measurable fuel from sitting.  Check the seal on the cap, make sure you don't have a slow leak somewhere.  I run mine about 10 minutes every 10 days to two weeks to keep the carbs clean...
