Hey Everyone,
I've been riding for about a year, been looking to upgrade and saw a Magna V65 for sale that did not run, but supposedly had all its components on Craigslist and I bit the bullet. Prior owner is reporting he believes it is electrical problems. I have a fully charged battery, and am having difficulty figuring out what to do first. I am not mechanically minded, but have stripped the tank off the bike and am attempting to start at the starter solenoid. The issue I first ran into is there are way more wires than youtube led me to believe. When I turn the key, the lights will go on, when I pull the clutch and hit start, it makes one distinct click, but nothing else happens. Any suggestions on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.
Bit of an update, was trying to troubleshoot. Lights will no longer go on, but as I was trying to test starter relay with jumper cables I accidentally connected the Positive with the negative straight on the relay bypassing the starter relay, and the starter turned over. Does that mean it is my starter relay into the starter solenoid?
Have realized I connected the starter relay backwards, and when I hit the start button with a multimeter attached to the two screws on the relay I get a 0 reading, so I'm moving on the starter solenoid.
Thanks for the update. And good luck with the troubleshooting.
If you can possibly download the shop manual for the V65 (but I don't know from where) it will probably have a walk through for troubleshooting items like this.
