Post by: Charles S Otwell on June 11, 2006, 09:14:49 AM
85 Magna cranks good idles fine, past that it's slow to get up to speed, a blistering top end of 70 mph.It has New plugs, new fuel filter, any suggestions on where the best place to go from there would be ? Carbs? electrical? any help would be appreciated.

I would have to say the main jets are clogged lots of guys use seafoam in there tanks and say it works great might try an additive first if that doe not work then you will have to pull the carbs

Lack of fuel flow or lack of spark would be the 2 areas I would investigate.

He is trying the seafoam now I read your suggestions before on seafoam and had used it on one of my bikes, if that does'nt work would changing the coil packs help if it's weak spark? I have a couple of those. If we have to pull the carbs to clean them will we have to find a kit or can we just clean and put them back together? Shoot, I wish something was broke and I could just weld it! :) thanks guys for the help..

This is a long shot, but I've seen it happen before to cars.  Check the exhaust pipes for flow.  If it appears to be disminished then you may want to check obstructions.

If the bike has been sitting, a dirt dobber or mouse may have built an nest in the pipes. If the pipes are obstructed this can reduce power and make the engine run hotter. Like I said, it's a long shot but sometimes its one of those things to check when you've got a vague problem.

If you need a rebuild kit contact Billy C. on the V4Honda BBS.  He has them  for a good price.  If you are looking for someone to rebuild them for you call Andrew at Classic Cycle Parts 972-221-8902 email: classiccycleparts@comcast.net

What was the end result?  Solutions?

Although my Magna can push well above 70...I find it "slow" past 95 mph...to finally hit 120.
