Title: changing front tire caution!
Post by: rjb/AKA Bob Barram on July 08, 2006, 10:26:27 AM
I just had an experience with replacing my front tire and thought I would pass this on as a word to the wise.
I took off my front tire and took it to Cycle Gear where I bought my new tire. They do the replacement if you bring it in.
Well, on the magna front tire  there is a ring that works with the speedometer unit. It is held inside the wheel part by a rubber seal. It appears that Cycle Gear did not pay attention to this and wrenched down
on whatever they used to spin and change the tire on and bent it out of shape. Fortunately I had some experience born of cheapness that enable me to reform it and get it to working again.
Sooo, be cautious and point this out when taking in your tire for replacement.
Also, replacing the wheel unit should be done in this order: put on the speedometer unit and spacer, get the wheel close to the axle line, attach the speedometer cable to the unit (this insures the unit is on the
correct side of the metal extension on the inside of the fork), align the wheel with the spindle unit (axle) and slide it in, put in the bolt on the other side and tighten it down, tighten the four nuts on the forks and test spin.
Experience is a great teacher! I learned this the hard way!!LOL

BTW, how did Honda know I was MOOT #69? That is the number that is stamped on my speedometer unit!!

Yes, that is the one. I have been happy with what I have done there in the past, but this is the first work they have done for me.

Title: Bates Discount
Post by: Magnum Magna on July 11, 2006, 12:05:43 AM
I did notice they where doing tires in the back.

My tires are good for now.

I am going to compare them with Bates Discount in Carrollton on highway 35 and my brothers friends shop downtown Dallas Catalina Cycles.  Catalina Cycles is more of a Harley Davidson type of a shop.
