Title: Maintenance alert!!
Post by: Greg Cothern on July 31, 2006, 06:34:31 PM
Maintenance alert!!  I had a guy email me with a scenario that I had not encountered before but immediately knew the reason.
He said "that the speedo drive gear and the end of the speedo cable after only about 20 minutes of riding. The bottom of the fork feels very hot at this point but the brake disc feels normal and the other side of the axle feels OK."
Wheel Bearing!!!!!  Remember if you ride in the rain quite a bit, or wash you bike with a pressure washer you need to check them often and replace them more frequently.  Someone a while back listed some part #'s and vehicles that use the exact same wheel bearing for much cheaper than stock.  Hopefully they will refresh our memories with that information??

Good reminder Greg.  I should get new bearings for the wheel I am going to swap out on Val.

Greg. What's a good way to test the bearings? Spin them and listen for noise?

Best way for me is to remove the wheel and use my finger to rotate the bearing.  It should feel smooth and not rough or gritty.
