Title: Meidcal Insurance?
Post by: taz on September 08, 2006, 04:03:36 PM
How many of you guys carry the $10,000 or $25,000 medical insurance that companies like Progressive and Dairyland offer with their motorcycle insurance?  Just curious to know what most people do.  It seems the older I get the more things like that I think about.  I know Misty and I only get to make about two trips a year on the bike, so we haven't carried it before.  Now that we ride two up and we are both working making a good living, we don't want anything to happen and not be covered.  How about you folks?

I have medical with my employer. My motorcycle insurance nor my life insurance (same agent) was interested in my medical insurance status.

I have the $10,000 medical. That's primarily because I have one of those horrible new High Deductible health plans that Congress has been touting as the answer to health coverage. Basically I have to pay for everything up to $3,000 every year. If you're decently healthy you'll never reach that $3,000 and the insurance company will pay out nothing while they're still collecting their premium... I don't see how that benefits me, but I do see who it benefits. :)

And the minute something bad happens they'll want the remainder of my deductible all at once. I don't want to have to worry about that so I carry the higher medical.

Also just because you have health insurance doesn't mean you'll be covered. In the event of a wreck where there is a 3rd party involved that may be at fault, the health insurance company will quickly back out of paying claims. Then you'll have doctors and hospitals breathing down your neck unless the "at fault" has been determined and they can take action against them. I found this out the hard way.
