Title: Riding suits
Post by: Troystg on July 22, 2005, 01:04:07 PM
Hi All-

I have been debating the purchase of a riding suit because of the warmish weather here and figured I'd see what everyone else wears.

I bought a pair of the Roadcrafter pants and am not sure if I want to by the jacket to bake in.

What does the group wear to ride during the summer?

I wear a Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket most of the time.  I don't think it is any hotter than just a t-shirt and it keeps me from getting too sunburned.  The only thing I don't like about it is it doesn't pack well when I'm not wearing it because of the padding.  I also don't use the rain liner because it doesn't breathe and makes me feel like I'm in a sauna.  I have the pants too, but they make me slide around in the seat, so I just stick with jeans.

The main thing I do to deal with heat is stay hydrated.  On the Magna I sip water from a Camelbak, and on the Valk I stick the hose from the Camelbak into a gallon igloo jug of ice water......ahhhhh!

I absolutely concur that hydration is a MAJOR factor other than rash protection with a summer jacket.  The jacket helps regulate your temp believe it or not.  The wind dries off your sweat very quick, your body cant cool itself properly.
I wear a Joe Rocket Alter Ego mesh jacket, it has a zip on outer liner for dual use when it get cooler, also you can zip in the rain liner for really cold days.

Well I bought the pants for my Roadcrafter suit and was having second thoughts about the jacket.  I was thinking of going with the Darien jacket instead of the Roadcrafter, but I 'm going to stick with the Roadcrafter and just sweat....

Thanks for the replies...
Title: Hot weather pants?

Does anyone have/wear any mesh riding pants with armor for the summer?

I have a Teknic mesh jacket with CE armor and it's great, but I'm looking for pants now. A buddy of mine came across a Harley renter this past weekend who laid the bike down going less than 20 mph. The jeans didn't last long at all (not that they would) but he was in such bad shape with hamburger butt that I decided to start looking for some hot weather riding pants.

My leather zip-over chap pants are great but won't work during the summer months. I thought I'd check here before hitting the usual sites.
