I've noticed after riding my dad's nighthawk that my front suspension is very squishy, the front end can really dive down if you hit the brakes with moderate force. And if you hold the brake and push down on the bars it dives pretty good, then comes back up and bounces back/forth pretty good. No good right?
Did a search on the forum here and found a little info about progressive springs/15wt oil, that the best fix for this?
Well that would be on the stiff end of the spectrum I have progressive springs in mine and stock oil . I noticed a big difference sure stops the front end dive which is a known issue on the 3rd Magnas...
mine was squiggly in turns 'specially if road was not perfect. I did the Progressive springs, 15W oil, AND a fork brace.
Now it is very stable even on very rough roads, and in the turns.
I try to do 1 or 2 modifications per year; this year is to install new LED signal and brake lights, which I fabricated myself.
Can I post pics on this site?

Progressive springs are on of my top 5 Magna mod suggestions! Great bang for the buck!

Fork brace? Elaborate?? I'd like to see pics of that if that's what you're asking about. You can email if you like, '2fs2ns at gmail dot com'

The third gen forks don't just dive when stopping. Greg C, Devin, my son and I were out playing on the MSF grinder course and Greg pointed out to me how mine compressed while my son was doing the slalom course. That front end was just bobbing up and down. I still have not gotten around to putting in the Progressives, but I have definately seen the need first hand.

I'm going to go ahead and do this, think 15wt is on the stiff side, maybe mix 10/15 wt?
Is there a local source for the springs? Or ebay the best bet? I'd rather pay cash then put it on a card.
I would say that the best way to get them is thru Ebay cheaper for sure not sure about finding them at a retailer in your area other than the dealer might order them for you but you know how much thats gonna cost..
You can get them from many sources, www.wingthings-texas.com, Dave Dodge (call him # is on the MOOT main page), Ebay of course.
10wt is good if you are not aggressive riding, if you are then you can mix the 10 and 15 or go straight 15 your choice.
More than welcome to make it to my place and I will help you with the swap.
Thanks Greg, I don't have a lift and it looks like that's a pretty important tool in this swap. Maybe I'll take you up on the offer!
Good news, the guy on Ebay is in Lewisville, if he'll meet me maybe I can avoid shipping costs and pay cash.
Let him know your a MOOT'ster! Andrew has a lot of stuff for Magna's vintage and 3rd gen.
