Title: Mystery Bolt....
Post by: 2fs2ns on October 29, 2006, 08:05:36 PM
In the garage today I found a 10mm bolt, about 2.5" long.  I figured I'd missed on of the bolts that holds the bracket on the side of the bike when I did my carb job.  But, they're all there.  I also checked the bracket on the right side, they're all there as well.  I can't think of any other 10mm bolts I took off in that job.

Here's my question, all the bolts on my bike are stamped with what looks like a '10'.  This one has a '9' on it.

Maybe it belongs to my brothers/dad's bikes?  Does that stamped number mean anything?

Nothing's fallen off yet

Those numbers more than likely refer to the grade of bolt. Similar metric grade designations would be 10.9 and 9.8.

Thanks, I figured it was something like that.  I'm used to seeing those hash marks on the head indicating grade strength, but those are from my jeep days, not much metric going on there.

Check the chrome covers, they both have a bolt in the down side that keep them attached to the frame.
