Hello everyone, I am a new member. I purchased a 1994 honda magna this summer. I am a tattoo artist and I work at a studio that does custom airbrushing as well. With the huge tank that the magna offers, it is nothing to me other than a huge canvas. After searching for the perfect piece of art and modifying it to my liking, We started the process of beginning to paint. When we started wetsanding to tank to create a surface that the paint would adhere, we notice that the base color was being taken off as well. Was the magna factory paint enamel based or was it ureathane base coat /clearcoat?? I figured since the decal was clear coated over it was a two step process. But then why does the base color come off when wet sanding(in my case red) I need to know this because the paints we will use for the "mural" is House of Kolor. There is supposedly a chemical in the House of Kolor paints that will "eat the enamel if it is enamel based. It needs to be applied to a clear coat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks..
Mike
Mike welcome to the MOOT forum! www.color-rite.com I know has the paint codes for color, might have the information your looking for? Can always try getting a hold of the dealership see what they say.
Welcome Aboard!
I think Greg has steered you the right direction with the color-rite people. I wouldn't count on the dealership knowing jack diddly about the paint. My Magna is black an orange (italian red), but when I went in to get some touch up paint for the orange, they couldn't even find a paint code for it.
But color rite had it!
Welcome to the club first ! Second I would have to say that they are clearcoated I have done the paint thinner trick on my tank and it has come up clear. My bike is yellow and in need of PAINT hehehehe but from what I have seen unless someone has painted it after the fact then it should be clearcoated granted it might not be that thick lolololol
welcome to the gang mike
So my tank is done. I'll be posting links to the pics in a couple days We figured out there was very little clearcoat on the factory paint. So we clearcoated it first then did the artwork then shot it again w/ about 6 more coats of clear.
Good job on the artwork.
It's not so much that the nudity would offend as it is that it creates a problem for those who have kiddos in close proximity to the computer screen. We try to be family-friendly.
