Title: REPLACEMENT HANDLEBARS
Post by: BIGPOPPALUMP on December 17, 2006, 10:27:01 AM
HAS ANYONE REPLACED THEIR HANDLE BARS WITH SOMETHING AFTERMARKET?  I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SIT BACK AND CRUISE INSTEAD OF LEANING FORWARD TO REACH THE BARS.  I FOUND SOME BARS ON JC WHITNEY THAT ARE CALLED EXTENDED LENGTH BARS.  I WANT TO SEE SOME PICS OF A BIKE WITH THESE BEFORE I BUY IT.  I WANT TO LOOK GOOD INSTEAD OF LOOKING LOKE AN OLD SCHOOL BEACH CRUISER BIKE.  ALL I WILL NEED IS A BANANA SEAT!

There are several handle bars that will fit in the risers, but keep in mind that if you change out your bars and they pull back very far you will have to put on a longer brake line, clutch, throttle, and cables. If you go with stainless replacements (especially recommended on the brake line) you could be looking at about $200 in addition to the bars.

Another thing to consider are the cycleistic risers (www.cycle-stic.com). They will work with the stock cable length.

You may also want to try to loosen your bars and rotate them with-in the risers. I've ridden a few other Moot members Magnas and their stock handlebars have been rotated in various positions bringing them closer or further from you.

Be careful when tightening your riser bolts. They break easy. Use a torque wrench and tighten the top bolt first then the bottom bolt.

Jimmy (aka gloveberg) will hopefully chime in on this one.  I know he has quite a bit of experience with different handlebars.

I replaced mine with some old style pull backs, some call them buckhorns. there are lot of different widths and riser hights it depends on which ones you pick whether you have to change cables are not. I got a set off of an 85 Madura they are close to the same as the first gen V45s
except they are 1 inch dia. I didn't have to replace anything but I did rerout a couple of cables. You can't tell much from the small pic in my sig but I can email you a bigger pic you want to see what they look like?
