Got what I wanted!! :D  A conversion kit, using a signal minder and vector lights.  It turns the tail lights into brake lights as well. the question is do the break lights need to be red or can it be amber turn signal color?  If it needs to be changed where is a good place to get the right red lenses?

Clear lenses - red bulbs.

You can run amber but I believe the law states you have to run red, I ran amber for several years before switching.

talked to a cop that goes to our church, says as long as I have the regular stop light I'm ok.  Just cant run the "special" functions outside parades n such.  So I think I should be fine.

Did you have any problems getting it inspected when you had the amber lenses?

Don't know about all states, but in CA front running lights can be white or amber, while all running and brake lights in the rear must be red. Rear turn signals may be red or amber.
If you can read this, thank a teacher. For reading it in English, thank a veteran.
Age is a state of mind, I'm way past 60, going on 24.

Today I went the Texas DPS and had them check their manual, the officer even made me a copy. I will post the pages he give me as soon as I can scan them, after I eat :D, and yes you can leave the turn signals amber, even if they are a part of the brake lights, at least in Texas..

Ok, so I can't scan it. So here is what the officer read to me from page 886, Texas Criminal and Traffic Law.
I'm skipping a, b, & c because they are related to truck and trailers and pre 60's cars.

Sec 547.323 Stoplamps required
(d) A stoplamp shall emit a red or amberlight, or a color between red and amber, that is:
(1) visible in normal sunlight at a distance of at least 300 feet from the rear of the vehicle; and
(2) displayed when the vehicle service brake is applied

(e) If vehicles are traveling in combination only the stoplamps on the rearmost vehicle are required to emit a light for the distance specified in subsection (d)
(f) A stoplamp may be included as a part of another rear lamp.

You'll have to take my word or wait until I figure out how to get the copies on my PC, or someone can go to the trouble of researching it online. I drove across town an set in front on a Texas Highway patrolman and watched him look it up, that's the total extent of my research desires :D :D..

However, he did graciouly remind me that not all officers knew the codes by heart, and it was possible to find one. so if you get pulled over :(, spout the law and mouth at your own risk   ..

I think we have some brothers on here that are on the force and might possibly back me up on this 8). Possibly :-?
