I just bought a used speedometer to replace my broken one & it is about 8000 miles over my actual mileage.  Is there any way to turn it back to match my actual mileage? I am sure I could hook up a drill & go forward to make it roll over but it would be easier to go backwards.  I am sure it would put a lot of wear on it if I was to go all the way to 100000 & back around.  I am just worried about turning it backwards & breaking something inside.  Has anyone attempted this before? Any help would be appreciated.

Is you old speedometer broke or just the case, thinking you might use the original internal parts and just swap the housing , Back in the day we used to roll back a few extra miles we didn't want our dads to find out about .But unless things have change a lot  a drill is almost as slow as riding it . :) I have taken some apart and moved the numbers manually all depends on how the speedometer is built. A lot of the new stuff is made tamper proof to protect warranty claims and speedometer fraud .Your dealer might know how to change it. Or someone else here will have the answer..

Actually I dont even ahve the original speedometer.  The bike had been wrecked & the speedometer & tach destroyed so the guy I bought it from put on a junkyard speedometer that looks horrible & isnt even from a magna.
