Just picked up an 82 Manga v45. A few questions

Well, I just tried a full flush/fill/bleed of the system with no change.  As the engine revs up the tire starts to spin even though it is in neutral.

Any ideas?

There is some drag so a bit of wheel spin is normal, as long as it is not more than a bit of resistance wouldn't stop.

are you saying that the clutch still doesn't work? some times its really hard to get all of the air out.

It is more then a little wheel spin.  I put my foot against the tire to check to see if it was doing that, but even with resistance on the tire it was still spinning.  Shifted into first and pulled in the lever and the tire wasn't sped up to idle speed even with light pressure on the tire.

The clutch is not working as it should.

I would bleed the system again as Jerry suggested.  If a few attempts at getting all the air out doesnt seem to work, try one more time LoL.  Then I would turn my attention to a rebuild kit for the slave cylinder then master cylinder.

Where can I get the rebuild kits?

I suspect the master cylinder is working because when I am bleeding the system when I pull the clutch lever fluid moves out the bleed valve when it is open.

You can get the rebuild kit at oldbike barn.com. I think the cost is about 25 bucks.

Got another question.  I've seen some post where people are told to bleed the system from the top as air bubbles can get trapped up by the union bolt.  So, what is the procedure for bleeding the system from the top up by the master cylinder?

The trick I had to use was to loosen the banjo bolt at the master cylinder and squeeze the lever until the bubbles which rise to the top of the system (that banjo joint is the highest point) then tighten the banjo bolt and release the lever.  I had to do this about 4 times to get all the bubbles out and get my clutch back.

Thanks for that.  I was using the search fuction, typed in "bleding" instead of bleeding.  Stupid fingers don't seem to want to type what I want them too.  No wonder I didn't get any useful information from my search.

I've tried it and it seemed to help out some.  The tire doesn't turn unless the RPM's are up around 4k, but when I shift into first it spins with the engine even with pressure on the tire.  I'll give it a few more tries tomorrow as I ran out of light for tonight.  No garage and no decent outdoor lighting to work by.

The rear tire of my '84 V45 will spin when the bike is on the center stand and the transmission is in neutral.  There is no issue with the engine bogging down when the bike is on the ground, so I haven't worried about it.  I've seen other bikes do this, so as Greg said, I think a bit of spin is normal, or at least could be expected

Took the bike off the center stand and fired it up.  In neutral it sat fine.  Shifted down into first with the clutch all the way in and front brake on full.  As soon as it went into first in lurched forward and stalled, because the brake was on.

So now at least I know for certain that the clutch system is not working.  Now, I just need to figure out why.

Either there is still air in the line, the slave cylinder is bad, or the master cylinder is bad, or any combination of the three.

Greg Cothern

Rebuild the slave cylinder and the master cylinder, its a 26 year old bike, would be a positive thing to rebuild them for GP anyway.

Planning on starting with the rebuild for the slave cylinder first as I think that that is the problem.
