Shifter mount bolts loose

Hello all,  Was on the way back home from work last night and noticed something wasn't working properly with the gear shifter.   I nursed it home because it did not want to go to second gear from first without seeming to bind up.   Went ahead and changed the oil as planned.  While i was changing the oil my son put his foot on the peg holding the gear shift lever and the whole assembly moved!!!   Upon further inspection the 2 bolts that hold this assembly to the frame were loose!!  A 12mm wrench fixed it right up... Thought everyone should be aware of this, as my bike only has 12000 miles on her.   Lance

Bolts getting loose is such a slow process that it easy to over look as a problem, it's happen a couple times to me and I'll still don't always remember to check everything over. Thanks for the reminder, sure would be embarrassing to have something fall off at Mootmag ..

Red is a little too permanent for my taste, blue will hold and still let you remove the bolt when needed, Red isn't always that forgiving, it's not too bad if you can put a little heat on it but I don't like using heat on chrome or aluminum.

I use very little knowing it is the stronger of the two.  When lowering her bike putting the mono shock back to the frame I was going to use it. The bolt is out of sight and it is a pain to get to the bolt to check it.

Yeah, Brenda's Shadow has the Mono shock, and I really like the look, but it is a pain to get to.  Loctite is a good product but the red has caused me problems in the past and I just like to err on the side of caution.. By the way I'm still running the chain you gave me, so thanks.

The Magna Service Manual recommends the medium strength thread-lock compound...that would be the blue stuff.

This is WAY to ironic.  Riding home from work yesterday evening I was coming off the freeway and approaching an intersection.  Pulled in the clutch to downshift and my foot "missed" the shifter.  I looked down and it was waayy down low.  I immediately realized I had lost the rear of the 2 bolts you are referring to.  I pulled over and the front bolt was very loose also, luckily had an allen wrench I had added to my tool kit.  I snugged it up and found a stick to shove in the rear hole to stop it from pivoting as badly.  Still had alot of "nursing" to get it home.  Replaced the bolt when I got home with some loc-tite on it and on the front one as well.  My bike also has 12,000 miles.  Course it is a 1984.  I wish I had been more observant last time I washed it.

This just re-inforces how diligent we all should be on checking our bikes.  I have always likened it to an airplane, you really should do a walk around everytime you get on.

This is probably an issue everyone should check their bikes for; mine were also loose when I did a general lookover last season at 11,700 miles.

Question?  Are you talking about the two bolt at the bottom that holds the foot peg assembly to the frame.  Two years ago changing the oil I noticed it was loose.

Those were the 2 that were loose on my bike; seems to be quite common.
