i need some help on wiring on a trailer.  When I turn on the lights and hit the brakes everything goes out.  I have 5 wires coming from my truck into a 4 wire adaptor.  4 wires on trailer white, green, yellow, and brown.  When I put on the left turn signal nothing happens when i put on my right both blink like warning lights.  Help!

Here is a diagram of the four wire setup; the five wire is the same, except the blue wire from the truck would be for electric brakes or auxillary power.

Ok I got the tail lights and blinkers to work.  However, when i hit the brakes all lights go out?  Any suggestions.

Bad ground, clean up the gound connections and double check the connectors for loosness or corrosion.

I agree, bad ground.  Check the ground connection on the trailer and on the vehicle.  They will usually ground through the ball hitch but if the trailer hasnt been pulled in a while the ball socket will not connect good.

All fixed.  I ended up rewiring the entire trailor.  The wiring on the trailor was very old and I think that it had broken under the insulation.  The only thing that is not working is the plate light.  I think it is the fixture I am replacing it tomorrow.  Thanks for all the suggestions.
