I went out to give you numbers for comparison.

With my aux. lights off.

RPMs

Idle = 13.33 volts    12.7

2000 = 14.41           12.8

3000 = 14.22

5000 = 14.19

6000 =   finally breaks  13.

8000 = 13.86

You have issues for sure, I don't remember the history you laid out I will have to go back and reread. You may also need to run some test on your alternator. All the regulators have either overcharged or quit.

I think so. I can't see anything bad, but I read a dead short across the yellow wires on the plug. I'm going to stuff it in a coffee can and see if Charles will haul it to the wrench session and let some of the other guys look at it.
I'd rather be outside than in.

Terry;
   I'm not sure that is an accurate statement.. Before my last regulator died (no output) I believe it was under performing for quite a while.. IF I ran my headlight and extra light for an extended period, my battery would go dead.. However, if I just ran just my headlight, it would keep up fine.. So, I think I probably had 1 of the 3 inputs from the Stator at the regulator not functioning or under functioning.. It was like this for over a year.. Now with my new regulator, I can run my brights and my aux light and still have power to spare..
Just my experience.. AND YOU KNOW I have LOTS of experience with Regulators and regulator wiring and batteries and, and, and...

Sad note here. I hopped my other bike and took the stator over to Charle's house. On the way, I came across a bad motorcycle wreck. A guy backed out of a driveway on a major road in front of a guy on a Harley who was probably booking it. No helmet. I didn't see the wreck, but it must have just happened.
As I came up on the scene the people from the house were on cell phones and hysterical. I stopped, held the guy's hand and tried to sound calm until the ambulance got there. Blood was pouring from his head. It didn't look good.
On the way back, a young officer (29 he told me) blocking the road said the guy had been taken to Wadley Hospital. He didn't think it look very good either. I got the guy's name, but don't want to post it in the unlikely event some relative of his reads the forum. I'll try to check on him and keep anyone interested updated.
