I was doing more tear down of the bike today.... and I was stunned to see that the "fuel rail" has a line that has been capped off by a screw?!!    Does anyone have a fuel line schematic or know where this is supposed to hook up to??

I don't have one of these, can only guess. Maybe it loops back into the tank as a relief/bypass.

Can you post another pic a little further away so I can see more "landmarks"?

Went out and looked at the 2 complete 1984's in the garage and confirmed my first thought.  What tee?
Both of mine have one line coming from the fuel pump to the front left carb (cylinder 2, I think) then there are plastic tubes with o-rings running to the other carbs.

Maybe there was an Aux tank previously installed.

I don't have an older V45, but it looks like it could be used to easily drain the fuel line for whatever reason? storage? maybe they spliced the line together because there wasn't a long enough piece and they only had the right size 't' avail and no straight thru barbed connector.. strange either way. :(

Also, you have likely seen this, but in the pic there looks to be a little spring down by the carb intake in the bottom right of the pic.  That spring goes on the linkage between the front bank and rear bank of carbs and you will need it for sure.  It tends to fall out when you remove the carbs (and when putting them back) and that is a common spot for it to fall.  It is a good thing to keep in mind cuz you sure don't want it falling into a cylinder.

I did find the spring and THANKS for letting me know about where it goes....  I would have left it out thinking it was there from something else....

I suppose it goes here... in between the right side

Here is a pic of the fuel tube removed from the bike...  center long one was the inlet and the two outer ones went to the carbs with the 4th blocked off......

ALso... there are 4 inlets to the carbs, yet only two of them had hoses to them.....     Here is a pic of the carbs, the inlet to the far left and far right only had the hoses to them....

Yes to the spring, that is where it goes and have fun keeping it there!  I cussed alot during that part of putting them back on.

Looks like someone rigged up your fuel delivery system.  I will check while I am boxing up the tank for you, I MIGHT have an extra set of the tubes that go between the carbs for the fuel.  If I find I have more than 2 sets you are welcome to the extras.  I know I have 2 sets as I have 2 complete bikes sitting here, but I bought some carbs about a year back off of ebay and can't remember if those came with them.  I think they did.  I will let you know and ship them with the tank if I do.

This is why I love this group I have seen so much helping each other in times of need and keeping each other running.. Heck I have had that help and helped if I could also just wanted to put that out there.

Makes me proud to be a part of such a great group of guys and gals.... MOOT RULES 8) 8) 8)

Cool.... I will make sure the Fed Ex man gives you a big sloppy kiss for all the effort!!   LOL!!   I am thinking I will use some wheel bearing grease (the red stuff) to hold the spring in place while assembly, if you gunk enough of that on there it should make it stay.....  I lost the bid for the fuel tank on Ebay.... (wife had xmas party for work we HAD to go to...Jeez!!)   so I am still looking for the UPPER fuel tank..... I am going to try to do more painting today on the frame and swing arm, as we have a Blue Northerner coming down tomorrow and supposed to be COLD!!!

This may be a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway because someone once told me there is no such thing as a stupid question,  just stupid people.   so here it goes

did they have a california model in that year, and if they did are you sure yours wasn't one at one point?

dgc67

Not sure if they had a CA model in 1982, but they did in 1984.  My first V45 is one, but I took all the extra vacuum stuff off and put carbs on it from a non CA model.
