Back in college one summer, I worked for a tire store. We had a service truck and worked the Interstate for truckers. That was SOP for setting the bead on the road.
I'd rather be outside than in.

I had heard about doing this but had never seen it done. Quite impressive IMO

Tried this on my car tire, but did not work..
You are also supposed to run a trail from the tire along the ground and light the trail, this gets you away from the tire in case things go bad..
I also recommend deflating and re-inflating the tire a few times to get as much of the unspent gas out of the tire as possible.

There is a previous thread with additional videos as well...

Me and my friends have done this lots wheeling in the bush, its always great fun there's always someone who's never seen it done before that calls bullshit and thinks were trying to trick them. Butane/ether works best but gas can work too, but you have the issue of it degrading the rubber of the tires and you can catch them on fire using gas if you put too much on or spill a bunch on the outside.

When I did my tires recently my neighbor was hoping I would have to do it and begged me not to without him watching.  I kind of wanted to also.
but, alas, mine seated easily at about 45 psi.

We have had this conversation before and since I value my friends I will repeat myself, if you don't understand the principles of how this works, do not mess with it. And do not under any circumstance use gasoline or LP gas, I don't care who you know that has used these and said it worked. I know there are those of you who are smirking at this post, but just remember there only has to be one person who is  inexperienced at this, to cause a tragedy.

When I said "Gas" in my previous post I meant the residual Ether, Not Gasoline!!!

We have a family owned business Tontitown Frame and Axle and we work on big trucks.  We seat tires like this ALL the time ONLY with ether. We also have made an air tank and welded a steel tube about a foot long with a ball valve  into it.  I put about 80-100 psi in it then put right on the rim of the truck wheel.  Open the valve and let the air into the tire and this will seat a 22.5 truck rim every time.  Just keep the air nozzle attached to the tire and it works.

You could easily do the same thing on a motorcycle wheel and not mess with explosives.

I agree to stay away from gas.
