After reading instruction for the muffler mod I was wondering why you knocked out the rivets instead of drilling them out is there a specific reason for this?

You can drill them, you can also drill the pipes instead of the muffler mod as shown.

I drilled 2 holes opposite of each other, Jim drill one and made a video.

The thread is here, my photo has been axed or something I can take another if needed but where Jim drilled his I have another just opposite of that.

I drilled two holes about 7/16 inch I like it, I have owned several VW in my lifetime and it diffently doesn't sound like a VW.

My 97 has two large holes drill with new end plates, much louder than my other, sounds good though.

I can shoot pics if needed.

Thanks Terry for the picture offer I am fairly sure I did mine the same way was only refering to the VW sound because of a remark the Greg had made in another thread.

drilled two holes in each pipe on mine this past monday - Still need to file it down and paint to make it look nice - however the the bike is louder and has a nice tone - granted I would like it to be louder - the louder the better for me - however with it being A. free and B. not having to re-jet the carbs its a fine alternative...

I can take a photo on another louder mod if you want, sounds great!

If Terry is talking about the two larger holes in the back plate it sounds really good.

Sure Terry - I'd like another louder option - would this mod involve having to redo the carbs?

A stock Magna will benefit from shimming the carb needles....  ANY back pressure relief you do (drilling the endplates will relieve backpressure) will only lean out the carb settings and thus creating a need for adjustments.

Yes, although nothing has been does to this bike, yet. I do have all the jets and shims but not the time.

I see the walk through on the tips and tricks - but having the time to do it and do it correct worries me - and the local shop wanted $600 to do it - thats just nuts! I am not the most mechanically inclinde so it makes me nrvous thinking about doing it myself - I have a 02? goldwing that I need to put the carbs back in so I can sell it and dont even have the time to do that... :(   (at least I get to ride to work!!)
