First is the 7/16" drilled holes W/O the muffler mod. IMO sounds better than the muffler mod W/O being too loud, this is subjective to each individual. Yes, they can be drilled larger that bit is what I had on hand.

With this mod if you can drill a hole, you're good to go! No removing endcaps, no rivet gun needed, removing rivets, or re-riveting the end caps.

Next are a total end cap refabed with holes drilled 1, 1 1/8, 1 ¼ depending whether the metal underneath was cut to the size of the end cap hole. I have not pulled a cap but looks like they ran into difficult times possibly enlarging the hole several times.

There is a piece of muffler cloth between the end cap and the pipe to prevent rattles. The metal is shiny unpainted, when I have time I could clean up the cuts for a better look.

This sounds great, I like these the best, nice louder bite more like the Magna Muscle cruiser should sound like. What I do like about this mod is when on the road the sound levels off where as the Vance & Hines are loud on the road regardless if riding at a steady speed as far as communicating with someone. I do need more time since my V & H have not been installed on my 01 Magna to confirm. Anyway, This sounds Good!

Nice - I have already done the two hole - 1/2 (I need to sand it down and paint to make it look pretty) - it louder but l would like it to be even louder - might look into the two larger holes - but curious wouldnt one larger hole be the same?

I PMed you this but will post up for everyone.

Way back when I had the baffles pulled I didn't care for the sound and that was one big hole, seemed to have a hollow tinny sound maybe due to no back pressure.

I would have to pull them again for comparison sake, that's jut what I remember.

Terry,

Does it matter where the holes are located?  You have yours at 1 and 7.  Would it make any difference if they were at 2 and 8, or 10 and 4?

BA, I don't see that making a difference at all.

This is AWESOME!!!. I'm doing this tonight. I have been contemplating the muffler mod, but was scared it would sound tinny. The youtube video convinced me. Plus I'm thinking the holes, once drilled, could also be tapped and thread in some short bolts to turn the volume up or down. Not permanent and somewhat adjustable.

I found the following product to attempt to use instead of tapping the holes.... http://www.hardwareandotherstuff.com/servlet/the-62/CHROME-7-fdsh-16-dsh-1-fdsh-2-INCH-(11.1MM-dsh-12.7MM)/Detail

I looked at my local ace hardware for some bolts that could be fit into tapped holes and couldn't find anything that wouldn't look absolutely ridiculous. Then I found the link above.

However, after performing the mod, first drilling 1 hole per pipe and testing then following up with another hole, I love the effect so much I have absolutely no desire to plug one or both of the holes. In fact I have had to try my best to refrain from drilling more holes.

One of my fears about this job was it being really loud running down the road and that it would drive me nuts if I had to put up with it for an all day 400+ mile ride. After riding to work this morning with the mod I cannot even notice a difference at highway speeds so I have no plans to even try the plugs above, but thought someone here might.

Greg C drilled a bunch of small holes and did not like the sound, just be careful. The two I have heard are the two I have with varying sized holes. If you are close, by sometime you can listen to my other one.

It is a nice easy mod that sounds better to me than the other Magna exhaust mod.

You guys are going to make me look for stock mufflers and do the Mod.  I know mine has aftermarket, but not sure what kind.  A little to loud for my liking.

I am smack in the middle of Missouri, but would love to meet up with some other magna fans.

And the reason I have never done the other muffler mod is because I was scared it would sound like crap. I have never heard one though so I was uncertain. This one it was the youtube video that convinced me.

..what I really, really want to do is have custom exhaust made. My idea is a 4 into 2. take the front two cylinders together and the back two and bring them both out the right side. Then mount brake light and license plate on left side of the swing arm and clean up the back end. I have no idea how much this would cost, but I was hoping to sell some of my spare magna parts and start a custom exhaust fund and then go get some quotes.

Maybe I find a way to get a sound clip of them for you, to see how different the sound would be.  Wonder how much the shipping would set us back?

This is a UPS quote guessing 25 pounds total (I'm guessing that they are slip-ons). I also would like to get you some sound clips if I could. I'd hate to have you get them and be disappointed.

im in michigan and i shipped my stock mufflers to wisconson and the shipping was about $45 i think. i could have broken it into two shipments, might have saved some money that way, but they  (ups anyways) goes on the size of the box. the mufflers cost me just about as much as shipping a corbin seat due to the size of the box, and not the weight.
